The STYLUS 2M MONO is a replacement stylus specially designed by Ortofon to equip the 2M series phono cartridges and provide optimal playback of mono vinyl records. Manufactured in Denmark, this stylus embodies Ortofon’s expertise and passion, a pioneer in vinyl playback for over 70 years.

A Nude Spherical Tip for Precise Groove Tracking

The STYLUS 2M MONO features an 18-micron radius nude spherical diamond tip. This tip shape is ideal for reading the microgrooves of 33 and 45 RPM mono records, most of which were pressed between the late 1940s and the late 1960s.

The spherical tip ensures precise tracking of mono grooves, which only have horizontal modulations, unlike stereo grooves that also have vertical modulations. The large 18-micron radius limits record wear and provides great playback stability.

The fact that the tip is nude, meaning it is made from a single diamond without an intermediate piece, reduces the moving mass. This allows for dynamic groove tracking and detailed high-frequency reproduction.

An Aluminum Cantilever for High Responsiveness

The diamond is mounted at the end of an aluminum cantilever. This rigid and lightweight material is an excellent conductor of the vibrations captured by the diamond to the cartridge generator. It provides high responsiveness during transients (attacks) and clarity across the entire audio spectrum.

Compliance Suited for Medium to Heavy Tonearms

With a compliance of 18µm/mN, the STYLUS 2M MONO is ideally matched with medium to high mass tonearms. It delivers an optimal tracking force between 1.6 and 2 grams, with 1.8 grams recommended.

This fairly wide adjustment range allows the tracking force to be adapted according to the tonearm, the condition of the records, and listening preferences (more dynamics or less wear). Anti-skating should be set according to the tonearm manufacturer’s recommendations.

A Moving Magnet Generator with Split Pole Pins

The STYLUS 2M MONO is intended for Ortofon’s 2M phono cartridges, which use a Moving Magnet (MM) generator with split pole pins. This exclusive technology, derived from high-end cartridges, allows for a very extended frequency response from 20 to 22,000 Hz at +3/-1dB.

Channel separation is unnecessary here since it is a mono cartridge. The four output pins deliver the same signal, allowing it to be used with any MM phono input. The 4mV output voltage is standard for this type of cartridge.

Simple and Quick Stylus Replacement

The STYLUS 2M MONO adopts the clever design of the 2M interchangeable tips. Simply pull gently on the front of the cartridge to remove the worn stylus and insert the new one by clipping it in, without any tools. The operation takes a few seconds and allows you to quickly enjoy your favorite mono records again.

You can easily switch between mono and stereo styli on the same 2M cartridge without readjusting the tonearm. It is also possible to use the 2M 78 stylus on the same cartridge to play 78 RPM records. Collectors will appreciate this versatility.
