Innovative Architecture and Technical Design

The Q SUB100 features a sealed architecture, also known as infinite baffle, which fundamentally differs from traditional ported designs. This airtight construction offers the major advantage of providing a more precise transient response and optimal control of the cone’s movement, which is especially crucial for faithfully reproducing percussive attacks and musical nuances.

The 254 mm driver uses a paper pulp cone mounted on a long-throw rubber surround. This combination allows for optimized air displacement while maintaining excellent dynamic control. The 50 mm voice coil ensures efficient thermal management and remarkable linearity even at high output levels.

The enclosure, built from 18 mm thick MDF with a reinforced 36 mm baffle, incorporates strategically placed internal bracing to eliminate unwanted resonances. This robust construction, weighing 16.7 kg, guarantees exemplary mechanical stability even during the most demanding passages.

DSP Technology and Embedded Intelligence

The major innovation of the Q SUB100 lies in its sophisticated DSP system, which revolutionizes the traditional approach to subwoofer calibration. The onboard processor analyzes the input signal in real time and automatically determines whether it is a stereo or mono signal, instantly adjusting the system gain to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio.

This intelligence allows the subwoofer to operate optimally whether connected to stereo preamplifier outputs, active speakers, or a home theater system, without manual intervention. The DSP also automatically adjusts phase and delay parameters according to the detected acoustic characteristics of the room.

Manual controls include an adjustable low-pass filter from 40 Hz to 250 Hz, fine phase and delay settings for temporal alignment, and a phase inverter to resolve interference issues. This flexibility allows for precise integration with any type of main speakers, from nearfield monitors to large floorstanders.

Acoustic Performance and Sound Quality

The Q SUB100 delivers an extended frequency response down to 32 Hz at -6 dB, a remarkable performance for a transducer of this size. This extension enables faithful reproduction of the lowest fundamentals, whether for cinematic effects or acoustic instruments such as organ or double bass.

The amplification relies on four class D modules configured in parallel, delivering 250 watts RMS with peaks up to 500 watts. This multi-module architecture improves cone control while reducing output impedance, resulting in better authority in the bass and harmonic distortion limited to just 0.09%.

The maximum sound pressure level of 111 dB at one meter positions the Q SUB100 as capable of effectively pressurizing spaces up to 40 square meters. The sealed design naturally favors rhythmic precision over sheer volume, prioritizing quality over quantity.

Positioning within the Q SUB Range

The Q SUB100 occupies the middle position in the new Q SUB series, between the compact Q SUB80 (8 inches, 200W) and the powerful Q SUB120 (12 inches, 300W). This segmentation allows for a choice tailored to room size and power requirements, with the 10-inch model representing the optimal compromise for most home installations.

Compared to the previous QB 12 from the Q Acoustics range, the Q SUB100 offers greater power and unprecedented integration technologies. This evolution marks a significant technological leap, positioning Q Acoustics among the most innovative manufacturers in the industry.
