Unnu Classic Series Model 211
Overview
The Unnu Classic Series Model 211 is a compact audio-video cabinet designed to meet a specific need: store a vinyl record collection while accommodating your hi-fi equipment. Designed in Denmark by Mike Fabricius and manufactured by Hammel Furniture, this 51.7 cm-wide cabinet combines the rigor of Scandinavian design with functionality tailored for music lovers. With its dedicated cutout on top, removable back panel, and customization options, it reflects an approach where every detail matters.
Construction and materials: durability in the service of design
The Model 211 is built from 16 mm MDF panels, a choice that ensures both stability and ease of finishing. What sets its construction apart are the four specially designed metal corners that reinforce the inside of the compartment. This technique delivers a solid structure without the need for a fixed back panel, freeing up space for cable management.
The paint is a hand-applied polyurethane lacquer, known for its impact resistance and long-term color stability. This robust finish allows the cabinet to maintain its original appearance even after years of daily use. Unnu cabinets are available in white or black paint, as well as in oak or walnut veneer for those who prefer the look of natural wood.
A modular compartment designed for vinyl
The Model 211 consists of a single compartment that can be arranged to suit your needs. Its most visible feature is the cutout on the top of the cabinet, specifically sized to hold vinyl records in an upright position. This opening is protected by aluminum corners that preserve the edges of the cabinet from wear. The records rest on a non-slip mat that keeps them in place and prevents scratches.
The internal shelf can be positioned at three different heights, allowing you to adjust the visible space for your records and free up room below for other equipment. Depending on the chosen configuration, you can store around 60 records in the cabinet while still keeping space for an amplifier, a turntable, or any other part of your hi-fi setup.
Cable management: discreet and practical
The Model 211 incorporates thorough consideration of cable routing, an aspect often overlooked in audio-video furniture. A cable hole is drilled at the center of the top panel and another at the center of the bottom panel, making it easy to link multiple cabinets together or route connections to your devices.
The back panel is attached by magnets 5 cm from the back of the cabinet. This clever system allows you to remove it in a single motion to freely access the rear and organize your cables, then replace it immediately. This 5 cm zone offers generous space to conceal power strips, power cables, and audio connections without spillover or visible clutter.
Optional cover plates for the cable holes are available in silver or black aluminum, discreetly engraved with the Unnu logo. Five different models are available to suit individual needs.
Customization and installation options
The Model 211’s compartment can remain open or be fitted with a door, either fabric or wood. Fabric doors are particularly appealing for hi-fi setups: they let sound pass through without alteration and allow remote-control signals to pass as well. They come in nine colors across two collections: the Melange series offers coal, concrete, frost, coffee, and latte; the Basic series offers white, silver, black, and grey. Wooden doors can be chosen in white or black paint, or in oak or walnut veneer.
For installation, several options are available. The Model 211 can be placed directly on the floor on feet machined from a solid block of aluminum. These feet, available in silver or black, come with adjustment screws to compensate for any floor irregularities. The cabinet can also be wall-mounted using dedicated brackets that hold it flush against the wall while offering fine level and alignment adjustments.
Additional shelves can be ordered to expand storage possibilities inside the compartment. This modularity lets you adapt the cabinet over time, as your collection and equipment evolve.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the actual storage capacity of the Model 211?
The cabinet can hold around 60 12-inch LPs in the top cutout. The space available under the shelf depends on the height at which you place it — the three possible positions allow the cabinet to be adapted to different types of hi-fi equipment.
Don’t fabric doors muffle the sound?
No, the fabric doors were chosen specifically for their acoustic transparency. They let sound pass through without notable alteration and also allow infrared remote signals to work normally, which is not the case with solid wooden doors.
Can multiple Model 211 cabinets be stacked?
Yes, Model 211 units can be stacked or placed side by side to create a modular setup. The aligned cable holes at the top and bottom make it easy to connect the different modules. Suitable feet or wall mounts are available to secure the assembly.
What’s the difference between Unnu and Clic?
Unnu carries forward the concepts developed by Clic — Mike Fabricius’s design, Danish production, features tailored for hi-fi — but with materials and manufacturing methods that allow for a more accessible price point. Clic remains a premium range made entirely by hand, while Unnu offers a more democratic alternative without sacrificing the essentials.
