The ArtSound ASW65.2 belongs to the Outsiders series, a range of speakers designed to work equally well on a patio as in humid indoor environments. IP54 certified, it combines a 6.5-inch polymica-cone woofer with a PEI dome tweeter driven by a neodymium magnet. An indoor/outdoor switch lets you adjust its sound signature to the listening environment, while its bass-reflex cabinet can be sealed airtight using the supplied tube.

Acoustic design: a balance of power and finesse

The ASW65.2 is based on a two-way system with a bass-reflex enclosure. It features a large 16 cm mid/bass driver with a polypropylene and mica cone. This material is used here for its ability to combine rigidity and lightness while offering very high resistance to extreme weather conditions.

This cone is mounted on a foam surround that allows for long excursion while limiting distortion, enabling the speaker to deliver good bass — often a tricky point outdoors. High-frequency reproduction is handled by a 25 mm dome tweeter driven by a neodymium magnet.

Each speaker in the ASW series integrates two transducers that ensure every detail is reproduced, while the generous cabinet easily delivers warm, full-bodied sound. The stated listening area can reach up to 50 m², making it suitable for both small patios and medium-sized gardens.

Waterproofing designed to last

Resistant to rain, snow, dust, and wind, the ASW65.2 is also resistant to UV rays and extreme temperatures. It can therefore remain outdoors all year round. IP54 certification guarantees protection against water splashes and dust, but does not allow for prolonged immersion.

Thanks to its sealed design, this speaker can be installed on residential or commercial terraces. Its integrated grille is weather-resistant. The ABS enclosure helps keep the weight down (around 3 kg per speaker) while ensuring good mechanical strength.

The indoor/outdoor switch: a notable feature

The speaker has a unique switch that lets you choose between outdoor use (patio) and indoor use (steam room, bathroom). This switch adjusts the frequency response to account for the different acoustic characteristics between an open space and an enclosed room.

Outdoors, the absence of walls means less sound energy is reflected back to the listener; the appropriate setting partly compensates for this phenomenon. In humid indoor spaces such as saunas or indoor pools, the natural reverberation of tiled or glass surfaces is taken into account to avoid an overly bright sound.

Configurable bass-reflex: adapting the bass to the installation

The bass-reflex port can be sealed airtight using the supplied tube. This option is useful in certain installation configurations where the port could be exposed to infiltration (horizontal mounting, heavy exposure to sea spray, etc.). Sealing the port slightly changes the bass response: the cabinet shifts from bass-reflex behavior to sealed-box behavior, with bass that is slightly less extended but often more controlled.

For most patio or garden installations, leaving the port open remains the most relevant choice to take full advantage of the low-frequency extension.

Installation: adjustable bracket and versatile mounting

The speaker comes with a mounting bracket that allows installation on any wall, beam, or under-eave. This bracket supports both vertical and horizontal installation and offers 180° adjustment to ensure an always-appropriate dispersion angle. The wall bracket is rustproof, ensuring long-term durability even in salty or humid environments.

The speaker can be mounted on a wall or on a beam. It can also be hidden among plants for a more discreet integration. Thanks to its curved shape and compact dimensions, the ASW65.2 blends quite easily into a garden or patio setting.

ArtSound’s Outsiders series includes several models, classified by transducer size and power handling:

The ASW45.2, a recent addition to the range, focuses on compact dimensions while retaining IP54 certification and the indoor/outdoor switch. The ASW800 is the flagship product of the series, designed for large indoor or outdoor areas.

The ASW65.2 thus sits in the upper end of the compact range: it offers more power reserves and bass extension than the ASW55.2, while remaining easier to integrate than an 8-inch model.
