Overview
This in-ceiling speaker builds on the proven design of the MDC64 while adding notable technical refinements. PEI dome tweeter with neodymium magnet, anti-corrosion aluminum grille, IP66 certification: the MDC64.2 expands the field of possibilities for the most demanding environments. Seaside locations, pool houses exposed to sea spray, technical rooms subject to temperature variations: this Belgian speaker backs down from nothing.
Higher sensitivity
With a sensitivity of 91 dB (±2 dB), the MDC64.2 gains 5 dB compared to its predecessor. In practical terms, this means that a modest amplifier is enough to achieve a satisfying sound level. The recommended power range extends from 10 to 100 W at 8 Ω impedance, leaving plenty of freedom when choosing amplification electronics.
The 6.5-inch (16.5 cm) woofer uses a carbon polypropylene cone. This composite material combines lightness and rigidity, two qualities sought after for controlled reproduction of mid and low frequencies. The frequency response goes down to 85 Hz, 10 Hz better than the previous model: male voices and bass lines gain in presence. The 0.5-inch tweeter features a PEI (polyetherimide) dome combined with a neodymium magnet, a combination that promotes treble precision and overall efficiency.
Waterproof, frost-resistant, marine compatible
The IP66 rating guarantees total protection against dust and high-pressure water jets. These speakers can therefore be installed in a bathroom, steam room, pool house or directly outdoors, even without shelter. Compatibility with marine environments opens the door to coastal installations where salt usually corrodes equipment within a few seasons.
The operating temperature range, from -20°C to +105°C, allows installation in harsh climates as well as in technical rooms heated by equipment. This thermal tolerance results from the one-piece ABS and aluminum construction: the speaker body is resistant to both frost and excessive heat.
Discreet in-ceiling installation
The 139 mm cutout diameter and 66 mm depth make integration into most suspended ceilings easier. Once installed, only the 190 mm diameter aluminum grille remains visible. Its anti-corrosion treatment preserves a like-new appearance over the years, including in damp rooms. The low weight (630 g per speaker) simplifies mounting in plasterboard, provided you plan for reinforcement if the surface is too thin.
ArtSound indicates a coverage suitable for rooms up to 50 m². This estimate applies to background listening at moderate volume. To provide sound for a large terrace or cover a commercial space, you will need to multiply the speakers and distribute them intelligently.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the grille be painted to match the ceiling?
The aluminum grille can be spray-painted or brush-painted, provided it is removed and prepared with a metal primer. Avoid thick coats that could clog the perforations and affect sound transmission.
What cable should be used for connection?
A speaker cable with a 1.5 mm² cross-section is suitable for lengths up to around 15 meters. Beyond that, or if the amplifier delivers high power, switch to 2.5 mm² to limit line losses. In a humid environment, opt for a cable with a waterproof sheath.
Does the speaker work with a 100 V amplifier?
No. The MDC64.2 is designed for low-impedance use (8 Ω). For a 100 V installation, ArtSound offers other models equipped with an integrated transformer.
Is a back box or isolation enclosure required?
The speaker is sealed at the rear, so no additional air volume is required. However, if sound insulation between rooms is an issue, a rear enclosure made of wood or sound-absorbing material will reduce sound transmission into the ceiling void.
What is the difference compared with the DC84 model from the same brand?
The DC84 uses a square form factor and goes lower in frequency (63 Hz). It is intended for installations where more bass is desired without adding a subwoofer. The MDC64.2 remains more compact and easier to integrate into confined spaces.
Can the speaker withstand direct water jets?
The IP66 rating provides protection against powerful water jets (such as a pressure washer used from a reasonable distance), but not against prolonged immersion. For maximum lifespan, it is still preferable to install it out of direct, close-range jets.
