Overview

The BP450 follow Triangle’s accessory philosophy, focusing on durable materials and easy installation. Gold plating replaces the silver used on the BP400, with an increased cable gauge of 4 mm² and an integrated directional marking system on the finishing sleeves.

A construction designed to last

The body of each plug is made of an anodized aluminum shell that shields the connector from external interference. The dimensions remain compact: 30 mm in height, 12.5 mm in width, and 12.3 mm in depth for the shell. The connector itself measures 35 mm in length with a diameter of 3.6 mm, dimensions calibrated to fit the vast majority of standard binding posts.

Gold plating serves two simultaneous purposes. On one hand, it protects the metal from oxidation over time. On the other, it maintains stable conductivity, which limits losses when the audio signal passes through. Compared to the silver plating on the BP400, gold offers better resistance to corrosion in humid environments.

Assembly and identifying cable direction

The fastening system is based on screw clamping, accessible with the 1.5 mm Allen key supplied in the pack. This method guarantees a firm grip on the cable without crushing the copper strands, a sensitive point on poorly tightened connections that end up deteriorating.

The plastic finishing sleeves play a dual role. They conceal the junction between the cable and the plug for a clean look, but above all, they carry directional arrows. This marking allows you to orient the cable in the direction of signal flow, from the amplifier to the speaker. Triangle’s Opera cables, made of braided copper strands, have a directionality related to their internal structure: the BP450 naturally match this characteristic.

The red and black caps make it easier to identify polarities. A wiring error (reversed phase) won’t break anything, but it will degrade the stereo image and bass coherence. This visual marking avoids blind handling behind a piece of furniture or in a rack.

Compatibility and usage limits

The maximum supported cross-section reaches 4 mm², which covers the vast majority of domestic hi-fi cables. Triangle’s Opera cables, offered in 2.5 mm², fit without difficulty. For larger gauges (6 mm² in some very long runs), you’ll need to look for larger plugs.

The 3.6 mm diameter corresponds to the standard for hole-type or spring-type binding posts. However, binding posts with clamping systems designed exclusively for spades will not accept these plugs. Before purchasing, a quick look at the amplifier and speaker connectors helps avoid unpleasant surprises.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why choose gold plating instead of silver?

Gold resists oxidation better over time and does not tarnish on contact with air. Silver offers slightly higher conductivity when brand new, but this advantage disappears if an oxide layer forms on the surface. For a long-lasting installation with no maintenance, gold remains the most reliable choice.

Do the BP450 work with cables from other brands?

Yes, any cross-section up to 4 mm² is suitable. The screw system adapts to both single-core cables and braided multi-strand cables. Only the mechanical compatibility of the diameter (3.6 mm) with the target binding post needs to be checked.

Can the BP450 be reused if I change cables?

The screw mounting allows you to remove and refit the plugs without damaging them. Be careful not to overtighten the screw to avoid stripping the thread. A spare 1.5 mm Allen key is easy to find at any hardware store.

What’s the difference compared to the BP400?

The BP400 use silver plating and accept cross-sections up to 3.8 mm². The BP450 switch to gold plating, gain 0.2 mm² in cross-section capacity, and incorporate directional sleeves. The dimensions differ slightly: the BP450 shell is more compact.
