Connecting a turntable to an amplifier involves more than just plugging in two RCA jacks: the ground connection plays a key role in eliminating hum and interference. Triangle’s RED Stereo RCA cable integrates this ground wire, which is often supplied separately, avoiding the need to purchase an additional accessory. Designed for analog sources (turntable, DAC, CD player), it is part of the “Black & Red” cable range launched by the French hi-fi speaker manufacturer.
The core of the RED cable is made of oxygen-free copper (OFC) with 99.99% purity. This type of conductor reduces micro-impurities that can affect electrical conductivity. Triangle has opted for a multi-strand structure instead of a solid-core conductor: the signal travels through several twisted wires, which promotes consistent resistance along the entire cable and reduces the risk of breakage in case of repeated handling.
Cables carrying low-level signals are sensitive to electromagnetic interference (motors, transformers, phones). The RED combines several protective layers, from the inside out: a PVC jacket around the conductor, a copper braid, an insulating aluminum foil, a second layer of PVC, then an outer braided cotton sleeve. This final layer provides physical protection while giving the cable a refined finish.
This multi-layer architecture does not guarantee total absence of interference in all environments, but it offers solid protection against common interference sources in home settings.
The RCA plugs are gold plated, a common treatment on hi-fi cables to limit oxidation over time and maintain a stable electrical contact. A color code distinguishes the left and right channels. Triangle also indicates the direction of signal flow with arrows on the cable, a convention derived from audiophile practice that consists in orienting the shielding from the source toward the amplifier. This indication makes it easier to install a consistent, system-wide setup.
What sets this cable apart from a standard RCA model is its dedicated ground wire. Turntables require a link between their chassis and the ground terminal of the amplifier or phono preamp to avoid the characteristic background noise (a 50 or 60 Hz hum depending on the power grid). The RED’s ground wire ends in spade lugs, compatible with standard ground terminals on amplifiers. This integration simplifies installation and avoids additional loose wires behind the hi-fi cabinet.
The cable is available in 1 meter or 3 meters. The shorter version is suitable for compact setups where the source and amplifier are on the same piece of furniture. The longer version allows for separating components, for example to keep the turntable away from vibrations or to accommodate room layout constraints. Weight logically increases with length: 140 grams for the 1 m model, 336 grams for the 3 m.
Triangle structures its cables into three tiers: Opéra (entry-level), Black Serie (mid-range), and Red Serie (high-end). The RED Stereo RCA sits at the top of this hierarchy, with a larger conductor cross-section and more elaborate construction than the Black models.
Yes, it is compatible with turntables equipped with RCA outputs and a ground terminal. Models with hard-wired cables from the factory cannot use it, but most hi-fi turntables offer interchangeable connections.
Yes, Triangle explicitly foresees this use. The cable is suitable for all analog sources. The ground wire will not cause any issues: simply leave it disconnected if the source does not require it.
Red cables use a larger conductor cross-section than Black cables and feature a more elaborate construction. Triangle positions the Red series (4 stars) above the Black (3 stars) and Opéra (2 stars) series in its product hierarchy.
No, this model is a stereo cable (two channels). For a subwoofer, Triangle offers the RED RCA Y, a mono cable with a Y configuration suitable for stereo inputs on subwoofers.
