Overview
A center speaker designed for architectural integration: the InWall 5 C is built directly into the wall, leaving only a discreet, frameless fabric grille visible. Mounted horizontally, it sits under a wall-mounted screen or inside a media cabinet without cluttering the space. Canton has packed its core loudspeaker technologies into this compact format: aluminum-titanium chassis, passive radiator, and dome tweeter with waveguide.
A horizontal format tailored for dialogue
The InWall 5 C is a 2-way bass-reflex center speaker. Its horizontal orientation and dimensions (520 × 170 mm excluding grille) naturally suit positioning under a TV or projector screen. The 3,000 Hz crossover frequency places the transition between mid-bass and treble in a range that’s ideal for reproducing voices.
The wide dispersion of the AB tweeter ensures a homogeneous sound throughout the room even if the speaker isn’t perfectly centered relative to the screen. This is a real advantage when installation constraints require shifting it downward or to one side.
Dual ATB drivers and passive radiator
The heart of the InWall 5 C is built around two 128 mm mid-bass drivers with aluminum-titanium cones (ATB technology). This composite material combines rigidity and lightness: the cone resists deformation during transients while remaining light enough to respond quickly to the signal. The two chassis work together and share the speaker’s internal volume.
A 128 mm passive radiator, also in aluminum-titanium, completes the system. It isn’t connected to the amplifier but oscillates under the effect of internal acoustic pressure. This passive radiator extends the low-frequency response (down to a stated 40 Hz) without using a port, which reduces port noise and simplifies integration in a confined space.
Wave surround suspension
The mid-bass drivers use Wave surround suspension, a technology that Canton employs across all its ranges. This multi-fold surround (as opposed to conventional single-roll surrounds) allows greater cone excursion while maintaining precise guidance. The controlled excursion reduces distortion at high levels and improves the speaker’s power handling. Continuous power handling reaches 70 W, with 140 W peak.
An AB tweeter with integrated waveguide
The 25 mm aluminum dome tweeter handles high-frequency reproduction. Its waveguide (Wave lens) shapes the driver’s directivity to widen the listening area. In practice, listeners seated off the central axis perceive a tonal balance close to what’s measured on-axis.
The frequency response extends up to 40,000 Hz. This extension beyond the limits of human hearing (around 20 kHz) doesn’t bring a direct benefit in listening, but it does indicate the tweeter’s ability to reproduce audible high frequencies without compression or rising distortion.
In-wall installation: clamps and oversized grille
The InWall 5 C is mounted in a drywall partition or masonry wall using integrated mounting clamps. These claws tighten against the inner edge of the cutout and hold the speaker in place without visible screws. Required mounting depth is 75 mm (81 mm with the grille).
The fabric grille measures 570 × 220 mm, roughly 50 mm larger than the speaker in each direction. This extra margin covers the edges of the wall cutout and any finishing imperfections. The result is a uniform surface that doesn’t reveal the exact boundaries of the enclosure. The grille is magnetically attached and can be removed without tools to access the drivers or clean the fabric.

General information
The Atelier InWall 5C speakers are designed for discreet installation as ideal center speakers beneath wall-mounted screens or in media furniture, when the technology needs to remain as invisible as possible. Despite their compact dimensions, they deliver clear and powerful reproduction of voices and midrange frequencies.
The practical mounting brackets supplied ensure a secure and clean installation, while the large fabric grille conceals all transitions and provides an elegant appearance.
Frequently Asked Questions
What wall cutout is required for installation?
Canton doesn’t publish an official template in the specifications, but the cutout should roughly match the dimensions excluding the grille (520 × 170 mm), with a tolerance of a few millimeters. The oversized grille conceals discrepancies of up to 25 mm on each side. A paper template is generally included in the box.
Can the InWall 5 C be used with speakers from other Canton series?
Yes. Impedance and sensitivity are compatible with most Canton speakers. However, for the most consistent tonal balance, it’s best to pair it with models from the same Atelier series or those using the same driver technologies (ATB, Wave surround).
Is a subwoofer essential?
The frequency response extends down to 40 Hz, which covers a large part of the low range for voices and common sound effects. For action movies or music with very deep bass, a dedicated sub will usefully complement the system below 60 or 80 Hz.
Is the speaker suitable for installation in a cabinet rather than in a wall?
Yes. The mounting clips can be used with standard-thickness cabinet panels (MDF, particleboard). The rear volume must remain sufficiently open so as not to choke the bass-reflex system.
What speaker cable should be used?
Cable with a cross-section of 1.5 to 2.5 mm² is suitable for lengths up to 10 meters. The rear terminal block accepts banana plugs or bare stripped cable.
Does the fabric grille affect the sound?
Canton designs its grilles to be acoustically neutral. The impact on frequency response is minimal. Purists may remove the grille for critical listening sessions, but the difference will be hard to perceive in real-world conditions.
Can the grille be painted to match the wall?
The fabric stretched over the grille isn’t suitable for standard paints. Canton offers the model in a satin matte black finish. For fully customized integration, some installers replace the fabric with an acoustically transparent material in the desired color, but this modification falls outside the scope of the warranty.
