At just 155 mm high, this wireless subwoofer is an outlier in Canton’s Smart range. Where its cousins, the Sub 8 and Sub 12, opt for a more conventional cube format, the Smart Sub 10 goes for a flattened profile that lets it slide under a piece of furniture or go almost unnoticed along a wall. Canton even includes wall brackets in the box, a clear sign that discreet integration is part of the design brief.

A slim format that doesn’t sacrifice power

The square cabinet (42 × 42 cm) hides a 220 mm downward‑firing driver. This downfire configuration disperses the bass omnidirectionally: the sound bounces off the floor before filling the room, which reduces placement sensitivity. In practice, you can tuck the Smart Sub 10 under a sofa, in a recess, or next to a TV stand without risking major imbalances.

The cone combines cellulose and graphite, a mix that Canton also uses on the Sub 8. This composition offers a good compromise between rigidity and lightness, two qualities needed to reproduce low frequencies without sluggishness or excessive coloration.

Sealed enclosure and controlled bass

Unlike many bass‑reflex subwoofers, the Smart Sub 10 uses a sealed enclosure: no port, no auxiliary airflow. This technical choice favors precision over sheer depth. According to Canton, the bass extends down to 27 Hz, with fast transient behavior. On rhythmic tracks or percussive soundtracks, the result stays tight, without the lingering resonances you sometimes get from poorly executed bass‑reflex subs.

The built‑in amplification delivers 200 W of musical power via a Class D module. That’s identical to the Sub 8 and Sub 12 despite their size differences. Canton partly compensates with its SC (Soft Clipping) technology, a protection circuit that limits clipping at high volume. The sub can therefore handle large peaks without audible distortion or risk of damage.

Integration into the Canton Smart ecosystem

The Smart Sub 10 communicates wirelessly with other products in the Smart series using Canton’s proprietary technology. Just pair it with a Smart Soundbar 10, Smart Soundbar 9, or Smart Amp 5.1 and the system takes over. Volume, phase, and channel level are adjusted directly from the master product, with no need to touch the sub itself.

For setups outside the Canton ecosystem, a low‑level RCA (Cinch) input allows wired connection to any amplifier or preamplifier with a subwoofer output. Phase adjustment remains accessible on the sub, making it easier to align the response with speakers from other brands.

The Auto On/Off function detects the presence of an audio signal and automatically powers the sub on or puts it into standby. In standby mode, power consumption drops to 0.32 W.

Finish and build quality

Canton offers the Smart Sub 10 in black or white seidenmatt (satin). The top of the cabinet is fitted with a polished, tempered glass plate, an aesthetic feature also found on the Smart Soundbar 10. This treatment gives the sub a refined look, even when placed prominently in a living room. Height‑adjustable feet make it easier to decouple from the floor and level the unit.

Where does it sit in the Smart Sub range?

The Smart Sub 10 occupies a unique position between its two siblings. It shares its 220 mm driver and frequency response (27 Hz) with the Sub 8, but swaps the compact cube format (27 × 33 × 27 cm) for a slim profile that’s half the height. This difference in form factor doesn’t affect raw acoustic performance, but it opens up installation possibilities that a cube can’t offer.

The Sub 12, however, plays in another league. Its 308 mm woofer and larger cabinet volume (38 × 45.5 × 38 cm) allow it to reach down to 22 Hz and move more air. For fans of very deep bass or large rooms, it’s the logical choice. The Sub 10 is aimed more at those who want solid low‑end foundation without sacrificing discretion.
