Overview
Ten centimeters of depth is all this on-wall speaker needs to blend into a room without sacrificing sound quality. With the Townus series, launched in 2021, German manufacturer Canton set out to combine discreet integration with refined sound reproduction. The Model 10, designed for wall mounting, incorporates the brand’s proprietary technologies in a format tailored for spaces where footprint matters.
An on-wall format that embraces its technical choices
The Townus 10 uses a sealed enclosure, a design rarely found in on-wall speakers where bass-reflex dominates. This acoustic principle eliminates the risk of air turbulence and port noise, making it easier to place the speaker against a wall without second thoughts. The usual trade-off of slightly reduced low-frequency output is offset here by more predictable behavior and better power handling.
At 19 cm wide and 29.5 cm high, the speaker remains compact. Its 3.5 kg weight allows for easy installation thanks to the keyhole mounting system integrated into the back of the cabinet. Canton supplies a fabric grille held in place by magnets, with rounded corners that follow the speaker’s overall shape.
The drivers and their expertise
The 154 mm mid-bass driver uses a titanium cone, a material Canton frequently employs for its rigidity and lightness. The surround features Wave Bead technology: a repeatedly folded geometry that allows for greater excursion while reducing mechanical distortion. This type of surround, developed for the manufacturer’s higher-end ranges, improves the driver’s linearity over its full stroke.
The 25 mm dome tweeter uses a ceramic aluminum oxide diaphragm produced by electrolysis. Canton claims a response up to 40 kHz, placing unwanted resonances well beyond the audible spectrum. A waveguide molded into the tweeter plate controls dispersion and ensures a smooth transition to the mid-bass driver, which crosses over at 3200 Hz.
The drivers are integrated into the baffle with no visible screws. Aluminum rings, machined using the “Seamless Diamond Cut” process, frame each transducer.
Rounded edges and acoustic dispersion
The cabinet edges are rounded along their length. Canton justifies this choice with a dual argument: aesthetic and acoustic. Sharp edges generate diffractions that disrupt driver radiation, especially in the high frequencies. The softened radii reduce these unwanted reflections and widen the optimal listening area.
The satin white cabinet (“seidenmatt” in Canton’s terminology) has a matte finish, which is less prone to showing marks than high-gloss lacquers. The speaker is also available in high-gloss black and real walnut veneer.
Power and compatibility
The Townus 10 handles up to 60 W continuous and 100 W peak. Its impedance, between 4 and 8 ohms, makes it compatible with most hi-fi amplifiers and home cinema receivers on the market. The gold-plated binding post, protected by an acrylic cover, accepts cables up to 10 mm² in cross-section.
The stated frequency response goes down to 45 Hz, an honest figure for such a small enclosure. In a multichannel setup, adding a subwoofer (the Townus Sub 12, for example) takes over below this limit.
Integration into a home cinema system
Canton positions the Townus 10 as a surround speaker within the Townus series. It pairs with Townus 90 floorstanding speakers at the front, the Townus 50 center, and the Townus Sub 12 subwoofer. The AR 5 module, Dolby Atmos compatible, can round out the system for height effects.
The Smart Amp 5.1, a compact multichannel amplifier offered by Canton, drives up to five passive speakers plus one subwoofer, with both network and analog inputs. It simplifies integration for setups that want to avoid the bulk of a traditional AV receiver.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Townus 10 be used as a main stereo speaker?
It’s technically possible, but Canton primarily designed it as a surround or auxiliary speaker. Its compact format and sealed enclosure limit low-end weight. For main stereo listening, the Townus 30 model (bass-reflex bookshelf) provides more body and dynamics.
How do you mount the speaker on the wall?
A keyhole mounting system is integrated into the back of the cabinet. Simply screw one or two screws into the wall (with anchors suitable for the wall material) and hang the speaker on them. No additional bracket is required.
What type of amplifier is suitable for the Townus 10?
Any amplifier capable of delivering between 30 and 100 W into 4–8 ohms is suitable. Stereo hi-fi amplifiers, home cinema receivers, and Canton’s Smart Amp 5.1 are all compatible.
Can the wiring run inside the wall?
The speaker does not feature a recessed connector. The binding post is located on the back, slightly set in. For invisible cable routing, a wall outlet should be planned close to the mounting point.
