Overview
Since the 1970s, the GLE series has been part of Canton’s history. This German line has been built on a balance between sound quality and accessibility. With the GLE 10 S2, the Weilrod-based manufacturer updates its on-wall model by integrating advances developed for its higher-end Vento and Reference ranges. The result is a discreet 9 cm-deep speaker that can be hung on the wall without encroaching on the living space.
An S2 generation redesigned in depth
The move to the S2 generation is not just a cosmetic change. Canton has reworked the drivers, the tweeter system, and the crossover tuning. The 154 mm mid-bass driver adopts an ATB (Aluminium Titan Black) cone, an evolution of the titanium cones used in previous models. This cone combines lightness and rigidity thanks to a matte black surface treatment, visible through the removable fabric grille.
The 25 mm tweeter also switches to AB (Aluminium Black) version with an enlarged waveguide. This modification widens the dispersion of the high frequencies, which is useful when the speaker is mounted high up or off-axis from the listening position. The frequency response extends up to 40,000 Hz, well beyond the audible range, which helps reproduce harmonics and gives more openness to the sound spectrum.
Closed acoustic design
Canton has opted for a closed-box acoustic design, without a bass-reflex port. This technical choice directly influences low-frequency behavior. A sealed enclosure generally offers faster transients and tighter bass, but requires more power from the amplifier to reach high sound pressure levels. With a sensitivity of 86 dB and an impedance of 4 to 8 ohms, the GLE 10 S2 remains compatible with most hi-fi and home cinema amplifiers on the market.
The frequency response starts at 45 Hz, which is sufficient for balanced music listening or for handling surround effects in a multichannel system. For movies with strong low-frequency content or for electronic music, pairing with a subwoofer is still recommended.
A format designed for seamless integration
The 17 × 30 × 9 cm dimensions allow the GLE 10 S2 to blend into a living room without drawing attention. The integrated wall mount simplifies installation: the speaker is fixed directly without the need for an additional bracket. The satin front and oval magnetic fabric grille enhance this visual discretion.
Three finishes are available. “Black Decor” and “White Decor” feature a matching lacquered front, while “Makassar Decor” combines a wood pattern with a black front. The fabric grille is available in black or white depending on the chosen variant.
Usage configurations
In stereo, a pair of GLE 10 S2 can be used in an office, a bedroom, or a small living room. The soundstage remains coherent even off-axis, thanks to the tweeter waveguide. In a home cinema system, these speakers are ideal as rear or side surrounds. The closed cabinet avoids air turbulence at low frequencies, an advantage in action scenes where effects follow one another rapidly.
Canton also offers the GLE 10 Pro S2, a variant equipped with a universal pivoting bracket that allows ceiling mounting in addition to wall mounting. If you are considering a Dolby Atmos installation with height speakers, the Pro version provides this extra flexibility. The acoustic characteristics of both models are identical.
Integration into a multichannel system
The GLE S2 series includes floorstanding speakers, bookshelf models, a center speaker, and subwoofers. The GLE 10 S2 can be used as a surround speaker alongside GLE 70, 80, or 90 S2 front speakers, with a GLE 50 S2 center. This lineup consistency ensures a homogeneous tonal balance across all channels. ATB and AB drivers equip every model in the series, which makes tonal matching between the different speakers easier.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the GLE 10 S2 be placed on a shelf instead of mounted on the wall?
Yes. Although designed for wall mounting, the speaker can be placed horizontally or vertically on furniture using the supplied feet. The integrated mount does not interfere with this use.
What amplifier power should I plan for?
An amplifier delivering between 30 and 100 watts per channel into 4 or 8 ohms is suitable. The 86 dB sensitivity requires a bit more power than a high-efficiency speaker to reach high listening levels.
What is the difference compared with the GLE 10 Pro S2?
The Pro version comes with a universal pivoting bracket that allows ceiling mounting with adjustable tilt. Both models share the same drivers and sound characteristics.
Do I need a subwoofer with these speakers?
For music and movie dialogue, the low-frequency response (from 45 Hz) is sufficient. A subwoofer becomes useful for soundtracks rich in deep bass or for high-volume listening in a large room.
Do the fabric grilles affect the sound?
Canton states that the grilles are acoustically neutral. In practice, removing them slightly frees up the high frequencies, but the difference remains subtle.
