Tonewinner SW-D8000 Pro: dual 15” subwoofer
With its two 15” drivers mounted side by side, the SW-D8000 Pro uses a configuration generally found on high-end subwoofers. Tonewinner, a Chinese manufacturer present in the audio industry since 1992, here offers a model that succeeds the SW-D8000. The cabinet has been completely redesigned: doubled volume, drivers aligned horizontally rather than in opposition, and six front ports instead of five on the previous model. The whole unit weighs 85 kg and measures nearly one meter wide.
A configuration designed for infrabass
The decision to align the two 15” transducers rather than placing them in opposition changes sound projection. Low frequencies are propagated in a more concentrated way toward the front of the room, which can improve the perception of infrabass at the listening position. The stated frequency response goes down to 12 Hz, one hertz lower than the standard SW-D8000, a modest difference on paper but one that reflects an optimization of the enclosure volume.
The drivers use composite paper cones combined with high-elasticity rubber surrounds. The motor structure is based on a 180 mm ferrite magnet and a 75 mm vented voice coil. This ventilation dissipates heat generated during large excursions, preserving the linearity of the transducer even at high levels. The long excursion allows a significant volume of air to be moved without the cone reaching its mechanical limits.
Amplification and power headroom
The Class D amplifier delivers 1500 W continuous into 3 ohms, with peak power rated at 8000 W. These peak figures, as often in audio, should be put into perspective, but they indicate a power supply sized to handle the violent transients of movie soundtracks. Class D limits module heating and allows prolonged operation at high volume.
Bass remains controlled even during dynamic passages, provided the physical limits of the system are respected. Like any subwoofer of this power, the SW-D8000 Pro can saturate the room if the level is pushed carelessly, and the room acoustics then become the limiting factor.
DSP and settings via the mobile app
A digital signal processor manages equalization and acoustic settings. The 7-band parametric equalizer allows you to correct anomalies related to the listening room: resonance modes, dips or peaks in the response. Three preset modes (Deep, Normal, Strong) offer different tonal curves, and a fourth mode stores custom settings.
Access to parameters is via the rear touchscreen LCD or the ToneWinner mobile app, available on iOS and Android. This app really comes into its own with an 85 kg subwoofer: it is difficult to squeeze behind it to adjust phase or level with every change. Phase can be adjusted from 0 to 180°, and the crossover frequency is adjustable. The filter slope can also be modified. Firmware updates are carried out wirelessly, avoiding the need to move the subwoofer to connect a cable.
Bass-reflex or sealed: the choice is left to the user
Six front ports reinforce efficiency in the bass and increase the physical impact of effects. Supplied foam plugs allow you to close all or some of these ports to obtain sealed-box behavior. In sealed configuration, transients gain speed and distortion in the very low bass decreases, but low-frequency extension is slightly reduced and output level drops. The app allows you to switch between the two modes and adapt the DSP accordingly.
This dual behavior offers valuable flexibility. Bass-reflex mode will suit home-cinema rooms where maximum impact is desired for explosions and action scenes. Sealed mode is better suited to music listening, where the precision of attacks takes precedence over sheer power.
Connectivity and system integration
The rear panel includes an RCA line input, an RCA LFE input, an XLR LFE input, and an RCA output for daisy-chaining a second subwoofer. The balanced XLR input is intended for setups with a home-cinema processor or high-end preamplifier, where the balanced connection limits interference over long cable runs.
The subwoofer can be installed horizontally or vertically depending on space constraints. With its 930 mm width, 612 mm height and 650 mm depth, it requires a dedicated space. The removable fabric grille hides the drivers if aesthetics demand it.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I switch from bass-reflex mode to sealed mode?
Insert the supplied foam plugs into the front ports, then select the corresponding mode in the app or on the touchscreen. The app automatically adjusts certain DSP parameters to compensate for the change in loading.
Does the subwoofer work with any home-cinema amplifier?
Yes, the RCA LFE input is compatible with the subwoofer output of all AV amplifiers on the market. The XLR input is reserved for processors and preamps equipped with balanced outputs.
Can two SW-D8000 Pro subwoofers be daisy-chained together?
The RCA LFE output allows you to connect a second subwoofer. Each subwoofer retains its own DSP settings, allowing different corrections depending on their location in the room.
Is the mobile app essential to use the subwoofer?
No, all settings are accessible from the rear touchscreen LCD. The app provides additional convenience by avoiding the need to move the subwoofer for each adjustment.
Is the SW-D8000 Pro suitable for stereo music listening?
Yes, the sealed mode and parametric equalization allow for fast, articulate bass suitable for music reproduction. Adjustable crossover frequency and phase make integration with hi-fi speakers easier.
What is the difference compared to the standard SW-D8000?
The SW-D8000 Pro uses a wider cabinet with drivers aligned side by side, doubled internal volume, six front ports instead of five, and a stated low-frequency extension of 12 Hz versus 13 Hz. The power and amplification technology remain identical.
