Overview

With its 30 cm height, the KS-12 answers a simple question: how do you place a Klipsch Heresy IV or a Klipsch/Ojas kO-R1 at the right listening height without resorting to unsuitable furniture? Klipsch designed this steel stand to position speakers 12 inches off the floor, a calibrated elevation intended to align the drivers with the ears of a seated listener. The KS-12 is part of the KS series, alongside the KS-24 and KS-28 models reserved for more compact bookshelf speakers.

A heavy, stable steel chassis

The structure is made of SPCC steel (Steel Plate Cold Commercial), a choice found across the entire KS series. The top plate measures 22.9 × 33.7 cm and supports up to 20.4 kg, which more than covers the weight of a Heresy IV (around 19 kg). The stand’s own mass helps damp vibrations: a horn-loaded speaker like the Heresy generates a certain level of mechanical energy, and a lightweight stand would transmit it directly to the floor.

The triangular base rests on three interchangeable feet: spikes to anchor it into carpet or rubber tips for hard floors. The spikes penetrate the carpet fibers and lock the stand in place, while the rubber tips protect wood flooring. With the spikes, the floor footprint is 38.7 × 38.7 cm for a height of 34.6 cm; with the rubber tips, the height drops to 33.3 cm. A leveling tool is included to compensate for uneven floors.

Direct attachment via threaded inserts

The KS-12 does more than simply support the speaker by its own weight. The top plate includes mounting holes and the necessary hardware to connect to the threaded inserts located underneath compatible speakers. The Heresy IV and the kO-R1 come with these inserts as standard. On the Heresy, you must first remove the “riser” base supplied with the speaker to access the mounting points.

This rigid mechanical connection between the stand and the speaker changes the game compared with a traditional stand where the speaker simply rests on a flat surface. The assembly forms a single solid unit: no slipping, no parasitic vibration between the two elements. Other bookshelf or stand-mount speakers of comparable size can also be placed on the top plate, but without screw mounting.

Invisible cables

The hollow uprights of the KS-12 accommodate cables ranging from simple speaker wire to a power cord, eliminating dangling wires between the stand and the floor. For a Heresy IV (passive speaker), a single speaker cable is enough. For the kO-R1 or possible active speakers, the internal cable path is sized for thicker cables.

The matte black finish resists marks

The finish is resistant to dust and fingerprints. In practice, this means the matte coating does not show touch marks and does not easily retain particles. On an object as visible as a speaker stand placed in the middle of a living room, that is a detail that matters day to day.

Why 30 cm, not more?

The 30 cm height may seem low compared with typical bookshelf speaker stands (60 to 70 cm). That makes sense: the Heresy is originally a floorstanding speaker, supplied with a small “riser” base just a few centimeters high. The KS-12 raises it just enough to align its acoustic axis with the ear of a listener seated in an armchair or on a sofa, without lifting it to a height disproportionate to its size. The kO-R1, with dimensions comparable to the Heresy (it shares its 12-inch woofer), benefits from the same logic.

The elevation improves directivity: the Heresy’s horn projects its mids and highs in a relatively narrow cone, and placing it at ear level rather than right near the floor makes it easier to be in the listening axis. The soundstage gains precision, especially in lateral imaging.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the KS-12 be used with a Heresy III or a Heresy II?

The Heresy III and earlier models do not have threaded inserts under the chassis. The speaker can be placed on the top plate, but it will not be screwed in. Stability will then depend on the weight of the speaker and its contact surface relative to the 22.9 × 33.7 cm top plate.

Is a specific tool required for assembly?

The KS-12 comes with the hardware and a leveling tool to adjust the feet. Assembly does not require any additional tools.

Is the KS-12 suitable for speakers other than the Heresy and kO-R1?

Any bookshelf or stand-mount speaker whose dimensions do not exceed those of the top plate (22.9 × 33.7 cm) and whose weight remains under 20.4 kg can be placed on it. Screw mounting will only work with Klipsch models equipped with compatible inserts.

Is the matte black finish the only available option?

Yes, the KS-12 is only available in matte black. It is a consistent choice with the dark finishes offered on the Heresy IV and the kO-R1.
