Overview
Five cubes measuring less than 80 mm per side and a compact subwoofer: this 5.1 pack reprises the Minx formula that Cambridge Audio has been producing since 2011, renamed MSX and redesigned for 2026. The MSX10 satellites and the MSX Sub 200 subwoofer, all in a matte finish, make up a complete home theater system where traditional speakers would take up too much space, with a clear acoustic promise: sound that comes out of a small format.
BMR, the MSX10’s technical choice
Each MSX10 is built around a single 57 mm full-range BMR (Balanced Mode Radiator) driver, developed by Tectonic Audio Labs. The principle combines the pistonic operation of a conventional driver with bending waves, allowing a single transducer to cover the entire frequency range (150 Hz – 20 kHz) with dispersion up to 180°. In practice, there is no narrow listening zone: performance remains stable as you move around the room. Cambridge Audio announces a fourth generation of this driver, revised for better efficiency and more generous treble extension. Announced sensitivity: 86 dB at 2.83 Vrms at 1 m; impedance: 8 ohms.
Five cubes to place or mount on the wall
The satellites measure 79 x 79 x 97 mm and weigh 430 grams each. The cabinet is reinforced with die-cast aluminum parts to limit unwanted vibrations. The matte finish aims for discreet integration in light interiors, and it is identical across all five satellites and the subwoofer, avoiding visual differences between front, center, and surround channels. Each MSX10 comes with a wall mount and a set of rubber feet: shelf, TV stand, mounting above the sofa or behind the screen, there is no shortage of placement options. The terminals accept bare wire or 4 mm banana plugs, with no proprietary cabling.
The fact that all five speakers are strictly identical has an acoustic consequence: the sound signature remains the same across all channels, avoiding timbral breaks when an effect moves from one channel to another.
The Sub 200 for bass and impact
With a crossover at 150 Hz, the MSX10 leaves all the bass to the active subwoofer MSX Sub 200. It features a 16.5 cm active driver and two passive radiators of the same diameter, powered by an internal 200 W amplifier. The response extends down to 36 Hz (-6 dB), which is enough to give impact to explosions, electronic bass, and double bass lines without seeking the infra-bass that a larger subwoofer would produce. The low-pass filter is variable from 50 to 200 Hz and phase is continuously adjustable from 0 to 180°, useful for dialing in the subwoofer according to its placement (against a wall, in a corner, off to the side). A DSP controls driver behavior at high volume to prevent signal crushing. Dimensions remain compact (210 x 220 x 232 mm for 5 kg), enough to slip it under a piece of furniture or into a corner without imposing a visual presence.
A modular foundation for upgrading
5.1 is not the only possible configuration based on these components. Two MSX10 units form a compact stereo pair for a conventional Hi-Fi amplifier. Adding the Sub 200 gives a discreet 2.1 setup for an office or a small living room. The complete MSX range allows configurations up to 7.1.2, mixing MSX10 and MSX20 according to needs; the MSX20 adds a dedicated woofer to the BMR driver, which can make sense for the front channels in a large room. The 5.1 pack therefore constitutes a coherent starting point, which can be kept as is or expanded later without buying a whole new system.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can this pack be used in stereo without a home theater amplifier?
Yes. Two MSX10 units plus the Sub 200 make a 2.1 setup that connects to a conventional stereo Hi-Fi amplifier, provided it has a subwoofer pre-out output. The three remaining satellites can stay in reserve for a later move to multichannel.
What room size suits this 5.1 pack?
The ultra-compact format of the MSX10 points them toward small to medium-sized rooms, typically up to 20 to 25 m². In a very large living room, the range recommends the MSX20 instead (larger, with a dedicated woofer) for the front channels. For greater bass output, the Sub 300 from the same range (300 W, 20 cm) is available as an alternative to the Sub 200.
Are wall mounts included for each satellite?
Yes, each MSX10 comes with its wall mount and a set of non-slip rubber feet. The pack therefore contains five wall mounts. Optional accessories (table stands, floor stand) are available in the Cambridge Audio catalog but are not included. The subwoofer, for its part, simply sits on the floor.
What does BMR change compared with a conventional tweeter?
A conventional driver projects sound mainly forward, with a narrow optimal listening zone. BMR adds bending-wave operation that broadens dispersion up to 180°. Performance remains consistent throughout the room, which makes sense for surround channels or in a living space where the listener moves around.
Can MSX10 units be combined with older Minx speakers?
Technically yes, since the electronics are identical and the MSX range is a direct evolution of Minx. However, the matte finish of the MSX10 will not match the glossy lacquer finishes of the original Minx: the mix is therefore mainly worth considering if visual appearance matters little, for example for concealed surround channels.
