Overview

What the press says

The sense of space revealed here was superb; this recording takes place in the Union Chapel, London, before a live audience, and the Paradigm speakers did a stellar job of recreating the ambience of the venue with this track. [...] Despite sounding crisp and detailed, the speakers didn't verge into sounding too revealing or analytical, which also meant that they really drew me in. [...] The size of these cabinets and the larger bass drivers did their job in delivering a controlled and punchy dose of low end.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the Premier 820F v2 and the Premier 720F v2?

The 820F v2 is the larger of the two floorstanding models in the Premier v2 range. Both speakers share the same three-way design and the same driver technologies (AL-MAC, AL-MAG, Carbon-X), but the 820F v2 uses 177 mm woofers versus 152 mm on the 720F v2, along with a larger-volume cabinet. This difference mainly results in more available output, slightly deeper bass extension, and a wider soundstage in large rooms.

Which amplifier should be paired with the 820F v2?

Paradigm recommends power from 15 to 250 watts per channel. Given the high 93 dB sensitivity and 8-ohm impedance, the speaker does not require oversized amplification to reach comfortable listening levels. A solid-state integrated amplifier delivering 50 to 150 W per channel covers most uses. For large rooms or high-level listening, a more generous power amp will make better use of the dynamic capabilities of the Carbon-X woofers.

What changes does the second generation bring compared with the 800F?

The 800F used a pure aluminum dome tweeter (X-PAL) and carbon-fiber-reinforced polypropylene cones for both the midrange and the bass. The v2 switches to an AL-MAC ceramic dome for the highs, an AL-MAG aluminum-magnesium cone for the 152 mm midrange, and new 177 mm Carbon-X woofers paired with a third-generation ART surround. The enclosure remains a four-driver, three-way bass-reflex design, in dimensions close to the first version.

How should these floorstanding speakers be completed for a home theater system?

Paradigm designed the Premier v2 range as a coherent set. For a 5.1 installation, the pair of 820F v2 speakers can be paired with the Premier 620C v2 center channel and two surround speakers chosen from the Premier 220B v2 or 120B v2 (bookshelf), or from the 520LCR v2 model (multifunction). For a 7.1 or Dolby Atmos system, the same principle applies by increasing the number of surround speakers. The consistency of the whole system is based on the identity of the drivers across the models.
