IF Product Design Award
The iF Design Awards, created in 1953, represent one of the world's leading design competitions. Each year, it attracts over 1,800 participants from 30 different countries. The jury, composed of globally renowned designers, not only examines and selects the chosen products but also adheres to stringent requirements to maintain a high-quality label.
We. HEAR 2 Loewe: portable Bluetooth speaker
The second generation of the Loewe portable speaker delivers 60 watts of music power in a 2 kg cylindrical format, enlarged compared with the HEAR 1 to gain greater sonic presence. The We. by Loewe range brings the German manufacturer’s audio expertise to terraces, gardens, and poolside areas, with a distinctive visual signature. Four colors in the catalog and a carrying strap complete the silhouette.
Cylindrical format and four colors
The enclosure measures 12.5 cm wide, 29 cm high, and 12.1 cm deep, weighing 2 kilograms. The elongated cylindrical shape stands vertically and is easy to carry thanks to a fabric strap attached to the top of the enclosure, removable if needed. Four shades in the catalog: dark gray (storm grey), light gray, coral red, and aqua blue. The perforated metal grille covers most of the visible surface and lets sound pass through on both main faces. The physical controls are limited to three buttons on the top: power on/off with call management, TWS pairing, and volume with track skip via long press.
Two-way configuration and 60 watts of music power
Under the grille, several drivers work together. Two main speakers of around 8 cm handle low and mid frequencies, accompanied by two tweeters dedicated to high frequencies, which gives the speaker a two-way design rather than full-range playback. At the ends of the enclosure, two passive radiators extend bass response without placing additional demand on the amplifiers. Power output is rated at 2 x 15 W RMS, or 60 W of total music power. The sound performance is compatible with all musical styles, from spoken podcasts to bass-heavy electronic mixes.
Bluetooth 5.0 and TWS stereo pairing
Wireless connectivity is based on the Bluetooth 5.0 standard, with A2DP profiles for stereo audio streaming and AVRCP for remote track control from the speaker. Smartphones, tablets, and computers pair with it without difficulty. A True Wireless Stereo function allows two HEAR 2 speakers to be paired as a left/right duo to recreate a true stereo soundstage in a room, with each speaker handling a dedicated channel. A 3.5 mm auxiliary jack input completes the package for sources without Bluetooth, and the built-in microphone supports hands-free phone calls.
15 to 17 hours of battery life
The 7.4 V and 4000 mAh lithium-ion battery lasts between 15 and 17 hours of continuous playback depending on the volume level, enough to cover a day out or an extended evening without recharging. The USB-C port recharges it in 4 to 5 hours, using a phone charger or a power bank. The operating temperature range goes from 0 to 40 °C, covering typical outdoor use without any special precautions, simply avoiding direct high heat on the casing.
IPX6 protection against splashes
The IPX6 rating protects the electronics against powerful water jets, which covers pool splashes, passing showers, and rinsing off after a swimming session. This certification does not allow immersion: the speaker must not be submerged, even temporarily. The enclosure does not have a numerical dust protection rating, but the closed design limits the intrusion of sand or fine dust, making the HEAR 2 suitable for use on a terrace, in a garden, or by the water.
Three design awards in 2021
The year the HEAR 2 was released was marked by three international awards. The iF Design Award 2021 and the Red Dot Award 2021 recognize the product’s visual coherence, its cylindrical silhouette, and its finishing choices. The EISA Award 2021, granted by the European organization bringing together specialist image and sound magazines, highlights for its part the sound quality and the product’s balance in its price category.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the main difference compared with the first-generation HEAR 1?
The HEAR 2 stands out from the HEAR 1 with its increased power (2 x 15 W RMS versus 2 x 10 W RMS), its larger enclosure, and above all its two-way acoustic configuration with dedicated tweeters and passive radiators at the ends. The HEAR 1 operates with two full-range drivers, without separation between bass/midrange and treble. The result is more pronounced bass and better-defined treble on the HEAR 2, at the cost of greater bulk and weight.
Does the True Wireless Stereo function support pairing between a HEAR 2 and a HEAR 1?
The TWS function of the HEAR 2 is designed to connect two identical HEAR 2 units, which then split the left and right channels between them. Pairing with a HEAR 1 is not supported: the two models belong to the same family but their internal configuration differs significantly (two-way for the HEAR 2, full-range for the HEAR 1), which is not suitable for consistent stereo playback. To take advantage of TWS, you therefore need two HEAR 2 units.
What is the Bluetooth range under normal conditions?
The Bluetooth 5.0 standard allows a theoretical range of around 10 meters indoors, and more in open areas without obstacles. In practice, load-bearing walls, metal furniture, or the presence of several wireless devices in the same room can reduce this distance. Keeping the smartphone in an open position, with no thick partition between the source and the speaker, provides the best results on a terrace or around a pool.
Does the built-in microphone handle calls from a smartphone?
Yes, the built-in microphone allows you to manage calls via a Bluetooth-connected smartphone. When a call comes in, the music automatically pauses and resumes at the end of the conversation. Calls are answered and ended using the power button. Voice quality is good indoors or in a quiet place. Outdoors, wind or ambient noise may interfere with the conversation.
Can you continue listening to music while charging?
Yes, the speaker continues to play while it is charging via the USB-C port. This allows it to remain in use on a patio or desk without interruption once the battery is depleted. For travel, a medium-capacity USB-C power bank is enough to extend listening well beyond the standard 15 to 17 hours of battery life, provided the charger’s output delivers sufficient current.
Can the carrying strap be removed?
Yes, the strap is removable and detaches from the enclosure. This makes it possible to place the speaker on a shelf without a strap hanging down, or conversely to hang it from a backpack, a tent pole, or a deck chair while on the move. The wrist strap follows the color cues of the enclosure’s main color on each of the four versions in the range.
