Hisense 85UR8S 2026

Three primary diodes that produce color directly, without a filter to tint it: RGB Mini LED changes the way an LCD screen creates its image. Hisense makes it the flagship of its 2026 catalog with two series, including the UR8S, available up to giant sizes. The 85-inch version combines a 3,500-nit peak brightness, a matte panel, and a native 180 Hz refresh rate. The technical detail deserves a closer look.

Backlighting creates the color

A conventional Mini LED lights the panel with white or blue light, then filters that light to extract red, green, and blue. Each filtering stage absorbs energy and reduces the purity of the shades. The UR8S series works differently: each backlighting point combines three distinct diodes, driven separately. Color is created at the source.

The claimed benefit is full coverage of the BT.2020 color space, the widest reference used today for HDR content. The quad-core MT9655 processor, which Hisense markets under the name Hi-View AI Engine RGB, adjusts the brightness and tint of each backlighting zone in real time. The brand also claims a reduction in blue light of up to 50%, a direct result of the separate control of the three colors.

One piece of data is missing: Hisense does not publish the number of local dimming zones in the UR8S series. Yet on a 215 cm diagonal, that figure carries significant weight in the finesse of local contrast and in controlling halos around bright objects on a black background.

3,500 nits behind a matte panel

Peak brightness reaches 3,500 nits, a comfortable reserve for the specular highlights of an HDR scene as well as for a south-facing living room. The matte anti-reflective treatment does the rest: instead of reflecting a window or a lamp as a sharp image on the screen, it diffuses stray light. The trade-off is well known: a slight grayish veil may appear in very dark scenes viewed in total darkness, where a glossy panel keeps deeper blacks. An ambient light sensor automatically adjusts the display level.

As for formats, the feature set leaves nothing out: Dolby Vision and its Dolby Vision IQ variant, HDR10+ and HDR10+ Adaptive, HDR10, HLG, plus IMAX Enhanced certification. Filmmaker Mode disables image processing to stay true to the master, while Calman Ready compatibility opens the door to professional calibration. A Cinema mode and a Sports mode complete the presets.

One technical point tempers the enthusiasm: the panel is 8-bit + FRC. The tenth bit of depth is not native; it is reconstructed by rapidly alternating neighboring shades. On slow gradients, a twilight sky for example, fine banding may still be visible at close range. AI upscaling, tasked with bringing lower-definition sources up to 4K, works on the same basis.

Native 180 Hz and 7 ms latency

All four HDMI 2.1 inputs support 4K at 180 Hz, with no hierarchy between the ports. That makes installation easier when a console, a PC, and a player share the back of the TV. VRR, ALLM, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro complete the package, with a measured latency of 7 ms in Game mode.

HSR mode pushes the display up to 330 Hz, but the definition drops and the function remains reserved for a PC source. Neither the PlayStation 5 nor the Xbox can access it. For movies and sports, MEMC motion compensation smooths panning shots, at the cost of the soap opera effect that some people hate. Filmmaker Mode turns it off.

Sound tuned by Devialet

Amplification totals 50 W distributed between two main 10 W channels, a 20 W woofer, and two 5 W speakers aimed at the ceiling, tasked with reproducing Dolby Atmos height channels. Devialet provides the final tuning, as on the rest of the RGB Mini LED range. The Room Fitting Tuning function analyzes the room acoustics to correct the response, and an equalizer with advanced settings remains accessible in the menus.

Fifty watts housed in a 52 mm chassis do not replace a dedicated home theater system, and the height channels remain more of a suggestion than a truly suspended sound layer above the viewer. Hisense has planned for both options: Hi-Concerto synchronization makes the TV speakers and those of a compatible in-house soundbar work together, and the WiSA SoundSend protocol allows the addition of wireless surround speakers. HDMI 3 handles eARC to feed an amplifier, and an optical S/PDIF output remains available.

Vidaa U9.5 day to day

Hisense’s in-house system moves to version U9.5, faster to navigate than previous versions. Alexa is integrated, Vidaa Voice provides native voice control from the ERF6P66H remote, AirPlay 2 streams from an iPhone or a Mac, and screen sharing covers Windows and Android devices. The Vidaa ART gallery turns the panel into a decorative frame when the TV is idle.

The VIDAA App Store brings together the main streaming services, but its catalog remains more limited than that of the best-stocked platforms. For less restricted use, an external box connected to one of the HDMI ports solves the issue.

The reception side does not settle for the minimum: DVB-T2 tuner, cable and satellite with two antenna inputs, Fransat certification, HbbTV 2.0.4, CI+ slot, recording to USB storage, and Timeshift function. A Hotel mode and parental controls complete the package. The media player handles recent codecs, including AV1, VP9, and HEVC. Networking works via Ethernet or dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, using the 802.11ac standard, in other words Wi-Fi 5 and not Wi-Fi 6. On a recent router and a 4K stream, the difference remains theoretical, but it deserves to be known. Bluetooth 5.4 supports headphones or a controller.

Setting down or mounting 189 cm of width

The chassis measures 1,890 mm wide and 52 mm thick without the feet, and the bezels fade into the background. Two feet support the screen and can be mounted in two height positions: the panel then reaches 1,152 mm or 1,120 mm above the surface of the stand. The high position leaves the necessary space for a soundbar so that it does not block the bottom of the image. Allow for 360 mm of stand depth, and 40.5 kg with the feet versus 34.6 kg without.

For wall mounting, the VESA points are spaced 600 × 400 mm apart, a spacing that requires a suitably sized mount and a wall capable of handling nearly 35 kg cantilevered. The shipping box measures 2,060 mm long and weighs 53.2 kg: plan for two people and check door clearance.

With a 215 cm diagonal in 4K definition, a viewing distance of 2.5 to 3 meters is enough to fill the field of view without making the pixel structure visible.
