The Bowers & Wilkins ASW608 is an active subwoofer that defies expectations with its unique combination of compactness and audio performance. Designed to discreetly fit into tight spaces while delivering deep and precise bass, this subwoofer is an ideal solution for discerning sound enthusiasts with limited space.
The ASW608 stands out with its particularly compact cube format, measuring only 26 cm on each side. This small size allows it to easily integrate into various environments, whether it’s a living room, office, or bedroom. Despite its modest dimensions, Bowers & Wilkins has made no compromises on build quality.
The subwoofer features sleek and modern lines, typical of the British brand’s aesthetic expertise. Available in matte black or satin white finishes, it blends seamlessly with different interior design styles. The front grille, available in black or gray depending on the chosen finish, effectively protects the speaker while maintaining the unit’s visual discretion.
The robust construction of the ASW608, with a weight of 8.85 kg, reflects the care taken in its design. This solidity helps minimize unwanted vibrations, ensuring purer and more precise sound reproduction.
At the heart of the ASW608 is a 20 cm diameter speaker featuring a cone made of paper reinforced with aramid fibers. This design offers an optimal balance between rigidity and lightness, enabling the quick and precise movements essential for reproducing low frequencies.
The driver is powered by a 200-watt amplifier using ICEpower technology. This Class D amplification solution, known for its energy efficiency and low distortion, allows the ASW608 to deliver powerful and controlled bass despite its compact size.
The subwoofer’s frequency response ranges from 32 Hz to 140 Hz (±3 dB), with possible extension down to 23 Hz (-6 dB) in its most optimal configuration. This frequency range enables the ASW608 to effectively reproduce most low-frequency effects found in movie soundtracks or music recordings.
The ASW608 offers flexible integration thanks to its multiple connection options. It features stereo line inputs on RCA connectors, allowing direct connection to a preamplifier or an audio-video processor. High-level inputs on binding posts are also available, facilitating pairing with amplifiers lacking a dedicated subwoofer output.
The subwoofer’s rear panel includes several controls to fine-tune its performance:
These multiple adjustment options allow the ASW608 to be optimized for various audio setups, whether it’s a home theater system or a stereo hi-fi installation.
One of the ASW608’s major strengths lies in its ability to adapt to different usage contexts. In a home theater setup, it provides the weight and impact needed for special effects and explosions, significantly enhancing the cinematic experience in small to medium-sized rooms.
In stereo, the ASW608 effectively complements bookshelf speakers or smaller floor-standing models, extending their low-frequency response and relieving their drivers of the lowest frequencies. This use results in a broader soundstage and improved overall dynamics, particularly appreciated in bass-rich musical genres like electronic, rock, or jazz.
The subwoofer’s automatic power-on function, activated by detecting an audio signal, simplifies its integration into a multimedia system used daily. Its low standby power consumption (0.5 W) reflects an environmentally friendly design.
The ASW608 is optimized for small to medium-sized rooms, up to approximately 20-25 m². In larger spaces, it may lack the power to effectively fill the volume, especially for intensive home theater use.
Start by placing the subwoofer near a wall or in a corner to benefit from natural bass reinforcement. Then, experiment by moving it along the wall to find the position that offers the best balance between bass power and precision from your main listening position.
The ASW610 features a larger driver (25 cm vs. 20 cm) and a more powerful amplifier (300W vs. 200W), allowing it to reach lower bass frequencies and play louder. The ASW608 prioritizes compactness and discreet integration while maintaining high performance for its size.

I’m delighted with this small subwoofer, ideal for a small room, to complement the B&W 706 S3, 707 S3 and HTM 72 S3. Being a sealed subwoofer, it doesn’t “chuff” like a bass reflex. Ideal for music and perfectly decent for home cinema.
