Overview
Onkyo concludes the presentation of its new 2014 range with the 11.2 channel Onkyo PR-SC5530 processor. In addition to the two extra channels, this new model introduces Dolby Atmos compatibility and an 11.4 XLR Pre-out output. There’s a Marvell Qdeo scaler for 1080p / Ultra HD upscaling, HDMI 2.0 connectivity, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, DLNA, and Airplay.
Another new feature is that the PR-SC5530 houses a large toroidal transformer and two E-I transformers to separately power the audio and video sections, while audio processing is handled by a dual 32-bit DSP and A/D conversion by Burr-Brown converters (192 kHz/24 bits).
You can also power a Zone 2 and Zone 3 in stereo and bi-amplify the front speakers. Of course, there are some DSP modes, a bass boost mode, and the essential Pure Audio mode. As for calibration, Onkyo has now opted for an in-house solution called AccuEQ.
Onkyo once again chooses to entrust video processing to the Marvell Qdeo, a chipset capable of upscaling to 1080p and Ultra HD (2160p), while offering several post-processing filters to adjust the level of detail, enhance edges, and reduce noise. ISF certification is still present, as well as InstaPrevue technology, giving a preview of active sources on the HDMI inputs in the form of thumbnails.
