Primare exploits this architecture in dual-differential mode: four channels per stereo side work together to drastically reduce distortion and background noise. ESS’s patented HyperStream technology achieves a theoretical dynamic range of 129 dB and total harmonic distortion below -120 dB.

The converted signal feeds an analog output stage built around individually selected field-effect transistors (FETs). This section contains no capacitors in the signal path, preserving phase coherence and sonic transparency. The dedicated linear power supply, built around an R-core transformer, has separate circuits for the left and right channels as well as for the digital and analog sections.
The output level can be configured to fixed or variable mode via the device menu. In variable mode, the CD35 can drive a power amplifier or active speakers directly using the C25 remote control, simplifying setups where you want to reduce the number of components in the chain.
Comprehensive connectivity and integration options
The analog outputs are available in balanced form on XLR connectors (4.4 V RMS, 100 Ω impedance) and unbalanced on RCA connectors (2.2 V RMS, 370 Ω). Two digital outputs allow the use of an external converter if desired: a coaxial output on an RCA connector and an optical TOSlink output, both delivering a 44.1 kHz PCM stream.

Can the CD35 play SACD or DVD Audio discs?
No. The TEAC CD-5020-AAT mechanism is dedicated exclusively to playing audio CDs (Red Book), as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs containing PCM files at 44.1 kHz. SACD and DVD Audio formats are not supported.
How do I add the Prisma module to the CD35?
Installing the SM35 Prisma module requires opening the chassis to insert the board into its dedicated slot, then connecting the two Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas on the rear of the unit. The operation can be carried out by an authorized dealer or by the user following Primare’s instructions.
Can the CD35 be used as an external DAC?
No, the CD35 has no digital inputs. It functions solely as a source and cannot convert signals from other devices. For this role, Primare offers the DM35 or DM36 DAC modules, which can be integrated into the 35 series amplifiers.
Does the variable output replace a preamplifier?
In variable output mode, the CD35 can indeed drive a power amplifier or active speakers directly. Volume is then adjusted via the C25 remote control. This setup is suitable for minimalist systems focused on CD playback, but a preamplifier is still necessary if you need to manage multiple sources.
Which streaming services are available with the Prisma module?
Once equipped with the SM35 module, the CD35 Prisma provides access to Spotify Connect, Chromecast-compatible platforms (Tidal, Deezer, Qobuz and several hundred others), AirPlay 2 for Apple devices, as well as UPnP/DLNA streaming from a network server. Roon Ready certification also allows integration into a Roon ecosystem.
Does the player support high-resolution files?
For CD playback, the CD35 handles only the 16-bit / 44.1 kHz PCM format of the Red Book standard. When installed, the Prisma module allows playback of files up to 24-bit / 192 kHz in PCM and DSD 128 (5.6 MHz) via the network or the USB-A input.
Can the C25 remote control other Primare devices?
Yes. The C25 system remote is designed to control all compatible components in the Primare range. It can, for example, control the CD35 and an I35 or I25 amplifier simultaneously, simplifying day-to-day use of a complete system.
