Really flawless, Bluetooth connection is perfect

The Pro-Ject E1 BT AT3600L is a manual, belt-driven turntable designed to offer an accessible entry into vinyl, with European-made construction. It comes with a pre-installed AT3600L cartridge and features Bluetooth connectivity, allowing for easy use with wireless audio equipment. This model combines user-friendly design with traditional manufacturing elements.
The E1 BT’s chassis demonstrates particular attention to resonance management. CNC-machined from a block of composite fiber, the plinth is completely solid, with no internal cavities. This construction approach, unusual at this price point, ensures uniform density that effectively limits the spread of unwanted vibrations. The manufacturer has deliberately avoided the hollow builds often found in competitors, opting instead for precise CNC machining that guarantees optimal rigidity.
The 300 mm platter is another distinctive element of this anti-vibration architecture. Made from ABS polymer, it forgoes traditional metal or MDF platters in favor of a ribbed design specifically engineered for this purpose. These reinforcing ribs, integrated during molding, create an internal honeycomb structure that combines lightness and rigidity while dispersing resonances. A felt mat completes the setup, providing a soft interface between the record and the platter.
The isolation feet integrated into the chassis also contribute to this overall damping strategy. Their design ensures effective decoupling between the turntable and its support, reducing the transmission of external vibrations to the playback system.
The E1 BT’s belt drive follows Pro-Ject’s proven principles while benefiting from modern optimizations. The DC motor, powered by an external 15V/0.8A block, transmits its rotation via a silicone belt to the sub-platter. This belt, chosen for its optimal damping properties, ensures smooth and consistent motion while filtering out the motor’s micro-vibrations.
Electronic speed change is a welcome convenience at this price point. A simple switch allows you to toggle between 33 and 45 RPM without having to handle the belt, unlike traditional entry-level models. Wow and flutter measurements remain low (0.25% at 33 RPM and 0.23% at 45 RPM), which are very respectable values for a turntable in this category.
The 8.6-inch (219 mm effective length) tonearm features a one-piece tubular aluminum construction. This design ensures both rigidity and lightness—two essential qualities for precise groove tracking. With an effective mass of just 7 grams, this arm has low inertia, making it easier for the cartridge to track, especially in complex passages.
The two-point bearing system allows free movement in both horizontal and vertical planes with minimal friction. The fixed headshell, while limiting upgrade possibilities, offers the advantage of maximum rigidity for the arm-cartridge assembly, eliminating a potential source of unwanted resonances.
The AT3600L cartridge is a pragmatic choice for this turntable. This moving magnet model, with standard half-inch mount, delivers a comfortable output level of 4.2 mV. Its 0.7 mm conical stylus, though modest in geometry, ensures reliable tracking with a recommended tracking force between 1.5 and 3 grams.
Channel separation above 20 dB guarantees a well-defined stereo image. While this cartridge doesn’t claim to compete with more sophisticated elliptical or microline stylus models, it offers a balanced and pleasant sound, particularly forgiving of record condition. Its slightly warm sound signature is a perfect match for the accessible character of this turntable.
The “Plug & Play” aspect is worth highlighting: the cartridge comes pre-mounted and pre-adjusted at the factory. Tracking force and anti-skating are set by Pro-Ject technicians, sparing the user from these delicate adjustments. This approach ensures optimal performance right out of the box—a considerable advantage for beginners.
The integration of a Bluetooth 5.0 transmitter sets the E1 BT apart from its direct competitors. But Pro-Ject didn’t just add basic connectivity. The inclusion of aptX, aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive codecs demonstrates a commitment to preserving analog signal quality as much as possible during digital transmission.
The aptX Adaptive codec deserves special mention. This technology dynamically adjusts the transmission bitrate between 279 and 420 kbps depending on the radio environment. In a home setting crowded with Wi-Fi and other wireless signals, this adaptability ensures a stable connection without unexpected dropouts. Compatibility with files up to 24-bit/96 kHz, while theoretical for a vinyl source, provides ample headroom for signal transmission.
Class II range (2.5 mW) more than covers typical home use, allowing streaming to Bluetooth speakers in the same room or an adjacent one. Automatic pairing with compatible devices makes setup easy, especially with Pro-Ject products equipped with a Bluetooth receiver.
The integrated, switchable RIAA preamp gives the E1 BT appreciable versatility. With a gain of 34 dB and a standard input impedance of 47 kΩ/100 pF, this stage meets established standards for moving magnet cartridges. The RIAA curve accuracy, maintained within ±0.5 dB across the 20 Hz – 20 kHz range, ensures faithful reproduction of recorded content.
This feature allows the turntable to connect directly to active speakers, a soundbar, or any amplifier lacking a dedicated phono input. The supplied 1.23 m gold-plated RCA cable ensures quality transmission in wired mode. The option to disable the preamp preserves flexibility for users who already own a higher-quality external phono preamp.
Technically possible but not recommended for this model. The unmarked counterweight and non-adjustable anti-skating make installing a different cartridge quite difficult. The factory settings are specifically optimized for the AT3600L. For an upgrade, consider replacing the stylus with a higher-quality compatible AT reference.
AptX Adaptive automatically adjusts the transmission bitrate (279–420 kbps) according to the radio environment and content, optimizing connection stability. Fixed aptX HD offers a constant 576 kbps but may suffer dropouts in crowded environments. Adaptive offers the best quality/reliability compromise for home use.
For a turntable at this level, the built-in preamp offers perfectly adequate performance with an accurate RIAA curve. More demanding audiophiles can always disable it to use a higher-quality external preamp, but it’s perfectly suitable for beginners or use with active speakers.
A simple three-position electronic switch (33/Off/45) on the side of the chassis allows instant speed changes. No belt handling required, unlike traditional entry-level turntables. This convenience makes it much easier to listen to mixed LP/45 collections.
The turntable does allow dual output: the signal remains available on the RCA outputs even during active Bluetooth transmission. This feature lets you, for example, listen on a main system while also streaming to Bluetooth headphones.
With proper care and correctly set tracking force (as set at the factory), a conical stylus can offer between 800 and 1000 hours of listening. The condition of your records greatly affects this lifespan: clean, well-maintained vinyl will significantly extend the stylus’s longevity.

Very good product for the price. Sound is excellent. A bit more stability would be welcome. A more detailed manual in French would be great (especially for Bluetooth).

Excellent turntable. Great sound. I chose it for the Bluetooth.
Unfortunately, I quickly had a connection problem.
Works very well with a Devialet Freebox Delta.
I recommend it.
