The NuPrime Evolution Two-SE is a mono amplifier from the Evolution Two series. It delivers 300 W into 8 ohms and 600 W into 4 ohms. This version incorporates measures aimed at reducing distortion, going beyond a mere cosmetic update.

ODC technology: a new approach to error correction

At the heart of the Evolution Two-SE beats a proprietary technology called ODC (Only Distortion Cancellation). Unlike traditional correction systems that invert the output signal to compare it with the input, ODC extracts error signals directly from the MOSFETs and filtering circuits. This radically different approach minimizes reliance on conventional negative feedback.

The result? Total harmonic distortion lower than 0.001% at 1 kHz for 5 W of power, and remaining below 0.002% even at 200 W. These figures aren’t just technical bravado on paper: they translate into a sonic purity that makes you forget you’re listening to a switching amplifier. The newly selected MOSFETs deliver three times the peak current of their predecessors, enabling effortless control of demanding loads down to 2 ohms.

Uncompromising engineering

The Evolution Two-SE doesn’t skimp on component quality. LME49860 op-amps replace the previous model’s MUSES8820 in the preamplification and Class-D oscillation stages. These ICs, coupled with military-grade feedback resistors with a 15 ppm tolerance, ensure remarkable thermal stability and signal precision.

The heatsink, CNC-machined from aerospace-grade aluminum, maintains a consistent operating temperature even during demanding musical passages. This thermal management allows the amplifier to maintain optimal performance without variation, regardless of listening duration.

The power supply is the backbone of this machine: a toroidal transformer with 900 W peak power, supported by a total capacitor capacity of 48,400 µF per channel. 40-amp capable connectors and PCB copper traces replace traditional wiring, maximizing energy transfer between the power supply and amplification circuits.

A switching frequency that makes the difference

The 650 kHz switching frequency deserves attention. Higher than many competitors, it enables superior sonic resolution by pushing switching artifacts well beyond the audible spectrum. In practice, this technical characteristic results in a more natural rendering of harmonics and micro-details, particularly noticeable on complex acoustic recordings.

The Hybrid Class-D approach: the best of both worlds

NuPrime employs what they call Hybrid Class-D technology, blending the sonic qualities of Class A with the energy efficiency of Class D. This approach yields a warm and natural sonic signature without the thermal and energy drawbacks of pure Class A amplifiers. Idle consumption remains modest (14–16 W), while the high efficiency limits heat dissipation even at full power.

Expansive and precise spatial rendering

The Evolution Two-SE unfolds a soundstage of unusual scale for a switching amplifier. The depth of the stereo image allows you to clearly distinguish the back rows of a symphony orchestra, down to the subtle pedal noises of a concert piano. This spatialization never sacrifices precision: each instrument retains its defined place in the sound field, without blur or confusion even during the most complex crescendos.

Low-frequency control is particularly impressive. The amplifier maintains total command of the bass, without overhang or bloat, while preserving the texture and nuances of low-register instruments. Acoustic double basses keep their characteristic woody timbre, synthesizers their distinct electronic textures.

Connectivity and practical use

The rear panel of the Evolution Two-SE remains minimalist yet functional. It features a balanced XLR input using a Neutrik NC3FD-L-B-1 connector and an unbalanced RCA input with a Furutech FP-900(G) connector, selectable via a switch. ETI BP-20C binding posts accept all types of speaker cable terminations. A 12 V trigger input enables integration into home automation systems or automatic power-on from a compatible preamplifier.

The mains voltage selector (115 V/230 V) facilitates international use, while a 7 A fuse protects the unit. The front-panel power button requires an 8-second press to turn on or off, preventing accidental operation.
