Overview
A wireless gaming headset that abandons the traditional aesthetic codes of the MMX range to adopt the clean lines of the Aventho series. This design choice is more than just a matter of style: it comes with a significant technical overhaul featuring Bluetooth 6.0, active noise cancellation, and a user-replaceable battery, a first for a gaming headset from the German brand.
40 mm drivers and audio spatialization
The MMX 230 Wireless is equipped with 40 mm dynamic drivers tuned to favor sound localization rather than the analytical neutrality of the brand’s studio headsets. The sound signature emphasizes low frequencies, with clean, deep bass, while maintaining balanced mids and highs. This approach results in a wide soundstage where every element finds its place in space, whether it’s enemy footsteps, spells cast in the distance, or teammates’ callouts.
The Beyerdynamic app allows you to refine the sound according to personal preferences or content type. Presets are available, but you can also create custom EQ profiles to tailor the sound to each situation: competitive gaming that demands precision, more cinematic story-driven sessions, or simply listening to music.
Bluetooth 6.0 and low-latency USB-C dongle
Wireless connectivity relies on the latest Bluetooth 6.0 standard, which provides virtually instantaneous audio transmission. For sessions where every millisecond counts, the included USB-C dongle ensures an even faster connection via a proprietary 2.4 GHz protocol. This receiver stores in a compartment under the right earcup, so it doesn’t get lost between uses.
The headset connects to PCs, PlayStation consoles, and Nintendo Switch, as well as iOS and Android mobile devices. The Multipoint function lets you switch between the dongle and a smartphone paired via Bluetooth: an incoming call automatically interrupts the gaming session, then the sound returns to the game once the call is over.
60-hour battery life and replaceable battery
Battery life reaches 60 hours of continuous use, enough for several weeks without recharging depending on how intensively it’s used. But the real innovation lies under the left earcup cover: the battery can be replaced simply by lifting this magnetically attached panel. This design significantly extends the headset’s lifespan, as you can swap out the battery once its capacity declines after several years of intensive use.
Active noise cancellation and isolation
The closed-back, over-ear design naturally blocks out external noise, but the MMX 230 Wireless goes further with an active noise cancellation (ANC) system. It reduces persistent ambient sounds such as PC fans, air conditioning hum, or distant conversations. The intensity of this feature can be adjusted via the app to find the right balance between immersion and awareness of your surroundings.
MEMS microphone with ambient noise reduction
The detachable microphone uses a 9.9 mm MEMS capsule paired with an environmental noise cancellation (ENC) algorithm. This technology filters out unwanted sounds on the outgoing side: mechanical keyboards, fans, various background noises. Teammates thus receive a clear, intelligible voice even in a noisy environment. The flip-to-mute function instantly cuts the mic when the boom arm is raised.
The sidetone function, adjustable in the app, feeds a portion of your own voice back into the headphones. It activates only during voice communications, avoiding any constant echo effect.
Lightweight build and long-lasting comfort
At 260 grams, the headset remains light despite integrating the battery, ANC electronics, and dongle storage system. The headband, padded with memory foam under a synthetic leather surface, distributes pressure across the head without creating uncomfortable hotspots. Ten height adjustment steps and dual-axis earcup articulation allow the fit to be adapted to all head shapes.
The velour earpads cover memory foam that conforms to the shape of the ears. This material breathes better than synthetic leather, reducing heat build-up during long sessions. These parts are removable and replaceable, which is an advantage for maintaining hygiene and comfort over the long term. They can be removed in one piece thanks to a magnetic mounting system, which also provides access to the battery compartment.
Built-in controls and dedicated app
Volume is managed via +/- buttons on the earcup, supplemented by a multifunction clickable wheel. A dedicated button lets you switch between ANC modes or turn the feature off entirely. Power is controlled via the power button, which also lets you select the connection mode (Bluetooth or dongle) at startup.
The Beyerdynamic app centralizes all advanced settings: sidetone level, ANC intensity, custom EQ, management of voice prompts. Once configured, these preferences are stored directly in the headset and remain active even without a connection to the app.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the MMX 230 Wireless work in wired mode?
The headset can receive an analog signal via an audio cable connected to the dedicated port, even when it is turned off. This option lets you keep playing even with an empty battery. Note, however: no audio cable is included in the box, so you’ll need to purchase one separately.
How do I store the USB-C dongle so I don’t lose it?
A dedicated compartment is located under the right earcup. Simply remove the earpad (held in place by magnets) to access this storage area. The dongle clips in securely and remains protected during transport.
Does ANC work when the mic is active?
Yes, the two systems operate independently. Active noise cancellation affects what the user hears, while the microphone’s ENC processes only the outgoing voice signal to other parties.
What types of replacement batteries are compatible?
The headset uses a proprietary battery accessible under the left earcup cover. Replacement batteries will be available as spare parts through Beyerdynamic’s after-sales service.
Will the headset keep my settings if I switch devices?
All configurations made via the app (EQ, ANC level, sidetone) are saved to the headset’s internal memory. These settings apply regardless of the connected source device, without needing to reconfigure them.
What is the wireless range?
Bluetooth 6.0 and the 2.4 GHz dongle offer a standard range of around 10 meters indoors without obstacles. Connection stability depends on the environment (walls, interference from other wireless devices).
