With the Red series, Triangle is expanding its hi-fi cable catalogue by offering an amplifier–speaker connection that is more advanced than the Opéra range. Sold in pairs in 3 or 5 metre lengths, this ready-to-use cable relies on a high-purity OFC copper conductor, multilayer insulation, and gold-plated banana terminations. All of this is housed in a braided fabric sheath that gives it a neat appearance as well as everyday flexibility.
The Red is based on OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) conductors with a stated purity of 99.99%. This level of refinement limits impurities that can create micro-resistances as the signal passes through. The total cross-section of 2 x 2.5 mm², equivalent to American 13 AWG, can power both bookshelf and floorstanding speakers without significant losses over typical lengths.
The internal structure uses a seven-bundle braid of 32 strands per bundle. This multi-strand geometry enhances the cable’s flexibility while distributing the current across the entire cross-section. Directional marking indicates the connection direction recommended by Triangle, a practice some manufacturers advocate to optimise conductivity, even if its effect remains debated among electronics specialists.
Triangle has stacked several barriers between the conductor and the outside environment. A cotton film first surrounds the copper, followed by an insulating cotton layer and then a flexible PVC sheath. The goal: preserve the electrical properties of the conductor and reduce electromagnetic interference that may be generated by nearby devices (TV, router, power supply).
On the outside, a PVC core covered with a braided fabric provides mechanical protection. The fabric sheath, often reserved for high-end cables, makes handling easier and limits accidental kinks during installation behind furniture or along skirting boards. It also gives the Red a visual finish that matches Triangle speakers.
Each end of the cable is fitted with BP450 banana connectors with a diameter of 3.6 mm, a common standard in the hi-fi world. The gold plating on the contacts reduces oxidation and maintains stable conductivity over time. Insertion into the screw or spring terminals of amplifiers and speakers is tool-free, simplifying repeated connections during tests or system rearrangements.
The anodised aluminium end caps, available in black and red, make it easier to identify polarities. A practical detail when you need to wire a stereo system or a multichannel home cinema setup quickly.
The Red is designed for mid- to high-end stereo or multichannel systems. Its 2.5 mm² cross-section is suitable for lengths of up to 5 metres without any notable degradation of damping factor, a parameter that affects woofer control in the low-frequency range. Beyond this distance, a larger cross-section may be preferable.
The cable’s flexibility makes it easier to route through conduits or behind furniture. However, the overall diameter is larger than that of an entry-level cable, so you should allow for the necessary space if you want an invisible installation. For those who prefer to make their own cables to the desired length, Triangle still offers the Opéra range by the metre, as well as BP450 plugs sold separately.
The Red sits between the more affordable pre-terminated Opéra cables and the Symphonie series, which uses 99.999% pure OFHC copper with silver-plated plugs. It shares with the new Black series a design focused on a balanced build-quality-to-price ratio, with the Black distinguished by a single available length and a slightly lower price point.
The Red features more advanced multilayer insulation (cotton, PVC, fabric) and gold-plated BP450 plugs, whereas the pre-terminated Opéra uses silver-plated BP400 plugs and a simpler transparent PVC sheath. The cross-section remains the same at 2.5 mm², but the Red’s construction aims for better protection against interference and improved durability.
Triangle does not specify any particular burn-in period. Some users report a slight sonic evolution after a few hours of listening, but this phenomenon, difficult to measure objectively, remains open to interpretation. The cable can be used normally as soon as it is installed.
The 3.6 mm diameter complies with the international hi-fi standard. They fit into most binding post sockets on modern amplifiers and speakers. However, some vintage devices with narrow screw terminals may present insertion difficulties.
The cable works with any passive speaker equipped with standard binding posts. Triangle has designed it to match the sonic signature of its own speakers, but its neutral character allows it to integrate easily into mixed-brand systems.
