Overview
Patio, poolside, conservatory or bathroom: humid environments call for speakers that can stand the test of time without sacrificing sound quality. The Pro XL.3 is the largest model in Canton’s outdoor range. It uses the same bass-reflex design and proven aluminum drivers as previous generations, while keeping a discreet size of 15 × 23.5 × 15.5 cm for 2.1 kg.
Built for harsh environments
The Pro XL.3’s enclosure is impact-resistant and protected against humidity. Canton does not provide a specific IP rating, but states that the speaker can withstand humid environments: covered patios, poolside areas, bathrooms. It is not designed for direct, prolonged exposure to rain.
The supplied mounting kit is worth a closer look. The wall bracket allows three installation options: horizontal, vertical, or angled. Once in place, the speaker can swivel about 90° to either side from its central position, making it easy to aim toward the listening area. Canton also includes a safety cable to prevent accidental falls, as well as the required screws and wall plugs.
The protective grille is removable. It conceals the drivers without significantly altering the sound and protects the cones from splashes.
Two-way design with a 130 mm aluminum woofer
The Pro XL.3 is a two-way speaker. The 130 mm woofer uses an aluminum cone with Wave (wavy) surround, a technique Canton employs on several of its ranges to improve excursion and power handling. The 25 mm tweeter is a soft fabric dome.
Crossover is set at 2,700 Hz. This relatively high crossover frequency for a 25 mm tweeter lets the woofer cover a large part of the midrange, which helps maintain vocal coherence.
In terms of power, Canton specifies 60 W continuous and 120 W peak. The 88 dB/W/m sensitivity is decent for a compact speaker: with a standard home amplifier (50 to 100 W), you’ll get enough volume to cover a medium-sized patio. The 8-ohm impedance makes the Pro XL.3 compatible with virtually all hi-fi and home theater amplifiers on the market.
The stated frequency response ranges from 40 Hz to 26,000 Hz. Bass extension is relatively deep for the size, but note: the 40 Hz figure is manufacturer data with no indication of the roll-off at that frequency. In practice, low-end response is limited by the cabinet volume.
Listening impressions: convincing mids, bass to keep in check
Voices, both female and male, benefit from a warm reproduction given the size. High frequencies remain smooth and non-fatiguing, without metallic harshness. With acoustic music or lightly compressed recordings, the Pro XL.3 delivers a balanced and pleasant sound.
Its limits appear when you turn up the volume on bass-heavy tracks. At high levels, the woofer can saturate and this distortion creeps into the midrange. This is common behavior for compact speakers, but it’s something to bear in mind if you plan to use them for parties at high volume. Adding a subwoofer relieves the speaker of the most demanding low frequencies and prevents this issue.
For background listening outdoors or ambient sound in a conservatory, the Pro XL.3 performs its role effortlessly. For more engaged listening with bass-demanding genres (electronic, hip-hop, modern rock), planning for a subwoofer will noticeably improve the result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Pro XL.3 stay outside all year round?
No, it is protected against humidity but not fully waterproof. Canton recommends installing it under cover (covered patio, awning) or bringing it inside in case of heavy rain. Prolonged exposure to bad weather may damage the components.
Which amplifier should I choose?
A stereo amplifier or home theater receiver delivering between 30 and 100 W into 8 ohms is suitable. The 88 dB sensitivity allows you to reach a good volume level without pushing the amp too hard. A model with bass management makes it easier to add a subwoofer if needed.
Can the Pro XL.3 be used as a surround speaker?
Yes, its compact size and wall mounting make it a natural candidate for rear or side channels in a home theater system. Many users employ it in this configuration indoors.
How should I aim the speaker once it’s mounted?
The supplied bracket allows about 90° of rotation to either side from the central axis. You can adjust the orientation without removing the wall mount.
Is the protective grille removable?
Yes, it is removable. Taking it off does not significantly change the sound but does leave the cones more exposed to splashes and impacts.
