Two membranes in tandem to extend the low end
The acoustic configuration is based on a bass-reflex principle assisted by a passive radiator. The front-firing 308 mm active driver works in tandem with a passive radiator of the same diameter mounted underneath the cabinet (downfire). This layout offers a concrete advantage: the passive membrane absorbs part of the excursion work, which reduces strain on the main driver and allows lower frequencies to be reached without increasing distortion. Canton claims a response extending down to 20 Hz.
Both membranes use the same black aluminum-titanium composite material (ATB), developed for the GLE S2 series. The multi-folded wave surround allows for a large cone excursion, a key parameter for reproducing deep bass at high sound levels without the driver reaching its mechanical limits.
Amplification and electronic protection
The built-in class D amplifier delivers 200 W continuous and 380 W peak power. SC (Soft Clipping) technology, a Canton hallmark for several years, operates upstream of the power stage to progressively clip the signal before it causes audible distortion. The subwoofer can handle intense dynamic passages without saturating or being damaged, a valuable safety margin during high-impact movie scenes or electronic music tracks.
Adapting to room acoustics
The rear panel offers three essential settings: volume, crossover frequency (adjustable from 50 to 200 Hz), and phase. A three-position Room Compensation switch allows you to tailor the frequency response according to the subwoofer’s placement in the room. In the “Normal” position, the curve remains balanced. The “Wide” position boosts the lowest frequencies, useful if the subwoofer is placed away from walls or in a large room where the bass lacks reinforcement. This function partially compensates for installation constraints without requiring complex acoustic measurements.
The inputs accept both a line-level signal (RCA) and a high-level signal via screw terminals for speaker cable. This dual connectivity makes integration easier in stereo systems without a dedicated subwoofer output.

The subwoofer measures 36 cm wide, 47.5 cm high, and 50 cm deep: a classic cubic format, though its depth means you’ll need to plan a suitable location. The height-adjustable feet let you fine-tune stability and optimize contact with the floor. The fabric grille, fixed by magnets, has a rounded oval outline that echoes the visual language of the GLE S2 speakers. It can be easily removed if you prefer to leave the cone exposed. Two décor finishes are available: black or white.
