Eight centimeters. That’s the depth Canton managed to work with to fit two 128 mm drivers, a 25 mm tweeter, and a passive radiator into a 3.5 kg enclosure. The GLE 15 PRO SS2 builds on the codes of the GLE S2 series — the German manufacturer’s best-selling entry-level line for several years — adding a pivoting bracket that opens up new installation possibilities.

A form factor designed to blend into the room

The GLE 15 PRO SS2 measures 30 cm tall by 17 cm wide. Mounted vertically, it works as a stereo speaker or surround. Positioned horizontally, it takes on the role of a center channel. Its enclosure, available in matte black or white, features a satin-finish front panel onto which an oval fabric grille attaches magnetically — the visual signature of the GLE S2 range.

The “Pro” version sets itself apart from the standard GLE 15 SS2 with its universal rear bracket. This mounting system allows the speaker to be angled toward the listening area, whether from a wall or ceiling. For Dolby Atmos installations requiring height channels, this angular flexibility is a genuinely practical advantage.

Black drivers inherited from higher-end series

Canton developed a new generation of drivers for the GLE S2, called ATB — Aluminium Titanium Black. The process involves applying a black coating to titanium-aluminium cones, a technique derived from that used on the Vento and Reference ranges. The result: stiff, lightweight cones capable of responding quickly to transients without distortion.

The GLE 15 PRO SS2 features a 128 mm ATB mid-woofer, paired with a passive radiator of identical dimensions mounted at the rear of the enclosure. This passive radiator configuration replaces the traditional bass-reflex port. It allows the speaker to reach down to 43 Hz according to manufacturer measurements — a respectable figure for such a compact enclosure — without the drawbacks of a port (chuffing at high volumes, constrained placement relative to walls).

The 25 mm tweeter uses an Aluminium Black (AB) dome, with a waveguide redesigned compared to the previous generation. The frequency response extends up to 40 kHz, well beyond the audible spectrum, though this can have an effect on phase and the sense of naturalness at high frequencies.

Power and connectivity: the practical details

With a sensitivity of 86 dB (2.83 V / 1 m) and a nominal impedance ranging between 4 and 8 ohms, the GLE 15 PRO SS2 calls for an amplifier capable of delivering current. Its nominal power handling of 60 W and music power of 110 W make it compatible with most home theater amplifiers on the market, provided they remain stable into low impedance loads.

The crossover frequency between the mid-woofer and tweeter is set at 3,000 Hz. The drivers are mounted on reinforced polycarbonate baskets with triple-roll Wave surrounds — a technology Canton uses across its entire range to improve excursion linearity.

Multiple configuration options

A pair of GLE 15 PRO SS2 speakers can form a discreet stereo system in a home office or living room where space is at a premium. In a home theater setup, they fit naturally as side or rear surrounds, with the added benefit of being precisely aimed at the audience.

Ceiling-mounted, they handle Atmos height channels. Canton also offers the GLE 10 PRO SS2 in the same range — a more compact model (30 × 17 × 9 cm) — which can complement the installation for overhead channels where ceiling space is limited.

Pairing with other GLE S2 models is a natural fit: GLE 70, 80, or 90 floorstanding speakers up front, GLE 50 center channel, Power Sub 8, 10, or 12 subwoofers. Canton designed this range so that tonal character remains consistent from one model to the next.
