When you invest in bookshelf speakers of the SourcePoint 8’s caliber, placing them on a piece of furniture or a shelf means limiting a good part of their potential. MoFi therefore offers custom-designed steel stands for these speakers, with a simple goal: position the concentric driver at ear level when seated and provide a stable base, isolated from the furniture.

Three steel columns, a custom-cut top plate

The structure rests on three steel uprights measuring approximately 5 × 5 cm each, fixed between a top plate and a wider base. The top plate measures 25.6 × 25.6 cm, matching the exact dimensions of the SourcePoint 8 base: the speaker sits on it without overhanging or wobbling. The base, more generous in size (31.9 × 33.2 cm), widens the support polygon to prevent any risk of tipping, even with a speaker weighing nearly 13 kg.

The total height of 57.3 cm places the acoustic center of the concentric driver at a typical listening height in a seated position, whether in an armchair or on a sofa. This is a point that is often underestimated: a concentric driver like the one in the SourcePoint 8 is designed to deliver its best sound image when the central tweeter is positioned roughly at the listener’s ear level.

Column loading and damping

The three uprights are hollow and can be filled with sand or lead shot. Adding mass reduces the micro-vibrations transmitted by the speaker to the stand, resulting in more defined bass and a more solidly anchored soundstage. MoFi recommends filling them to about 90% of their capacity to allow for settling. Play sand sold in garden centers or hardware stores works very well, while lead shot offers higher density for even more effective loading.

This loading remains optional. The stands work without filling, but the improvement is noticeable: the bass gains precision and the lower midrange loses that slightly blurred coloration observed when a speaker vibrates on a support that is too light or poorly isolated.

Four types of feet included, depending on the floor

Each pair comes with a complete set of floor-mounting accessories: spikes, protective cups for the spikes, neoprene pads, and felt pads.

On carpet, the spikes go through the covering to couple directly to the subfloor, maximizing stability and energy transfer to the floor. On hardwood, tile, or laminate, the felt or neoprene pads protect the surface while ensuring good isolation. The cups act as an intermediary when you want to use the spikes without risking marks on a hard floor.

Compatibility beyond the SourcePoint 8

Although they were designed for the SourcePoint 8, these stands can accommodate other bookshelf speakers of similar dimensions and weight (up to 13.6 kg). The 25.6 × 25.6 cm top plate will suit any speaker whose base does not exceed these dimensions. However, if you own SourcePoint 10 speakers, MoFi offers a separate stand model adapted to the larger dimensions of that speaker.
