Loewe Stellar 42 DR+
Awards
IF Product Design Award
The iF Design Awards, created in 1953, represent one of the world's leading design competitions. Each year, it attracts over 1,800 participants from 30 different countries. The jury, composed of globally renowned designers, not only examines and selects the chosen products but also adheres to stringent requirements to maintain a high-quality label.
Overview
Designed and assembled in Kronach, Germany, this 42-inch television pays as much attention to the display panel as to the object placed in the living room. Loewe pairs a factory-calibrated Ultra HD OLED panel with a back in aluminum, concrete, or lava stone depending on the finish, and integrates a soundbar and an SSD recorder directly into the chassis, with no external accessory.
Three finishes for the same television
The three versions of the Stellar 42 dr+ share exactly the same technical base. The difference lies in the choice of materials, especially on the back of the screen. The frame is the same across all three: brushed aluminum cut with beveled edges, which Loewe refers to as “diamond cut.”
The standard finish pairs this light frame with a rear panel also in matte aluminum, in a discreet monochrome style where metal runs along all four sides and across the back. The Concrete version replaces this back with real concrete reinforced with fiberglass, not paint imitating its appearance: each unit features a slightly different mineral texture. The Lava variant, for its part, combines a matte black aluminum frame with a dark textured back, for rooms where the television should blend into a dark wall.
Whatever the finish, the connections are concealed and the cables are routed through a cable management system integrated into the light gray rear shell. On the side, a slim signature flag of about 1 cm recalls the brand and is included within the screen’s total width.
A factory-calibrated OLED panel
The panel is a 42-inch (106 cm) Ultra HD OLED, with self-emissive pixels: each point lights up or switches off individually, delivering perfect blacks and contrast with no light bleed. Resolution reaches 3840 x 2160 pixels, response time drops to 1 ms, and the viewing angle holds at 120 degrees both horizontally and vertically.
On this 42-inch size, peak luminance is around 800 cd/m² on a 10% HDR window. That is a measured level: the larger sizes in the Stellar series go higher in peak brightness. Rendering therefore performs best in a room with controlled lighting rather than in full sunlight.
Each television is factory-calibrated to D65 white and RGB primary colors. The color gamut is expanded, and HDR management covers HDR10, HDR10+ Adaptive, and HLG, the latter adjusting its rendering according to the room’s ambient light. Video processing brings together source upscaling to Ultra HD, adaptive contrast, automatic gradation, the AI PQ engine, and 24p support for cinema.
Ten transducers integrated into the television
The sound does not rely on any external soundbar: it comes directly from the television, from the front. Under the panel, a sealed bar with passive membranes brings together ten transducers, six active and four passive, behind a metal grille. Filtering is done on two ways and amplification uses Class D.
Power reaches 2 x 20 watts in sine-wave operation, and 80 watts in music peak power. The television decodes Dolby Atmos, in addition to Dolby Audio, Digital, and Digital Plus tracks, for sound that expands vertically on compatible content. Several settings support listening: automatic volume, equalizer, dynamic loudness, and an AI AQ engine that adapts audio rendering to the content being played.
A useful detail for anyone who already has a home theater system: a center input in Cinch L / R format is used to employ the television’s bar as the center channel of an existing installation.
The dr+ system and its integrated SSD
Recording is one of Loewe’s signatures. The dr+ system here relies on a 0.5 TB SSD housed inside the television, silent and fast. The dual-channel chassis and dual triple-tuner (DVB-T2, DVB-C, DVB-S2) allow several uses in parallel.
In practical terms, you can pause live TV thanks to timeshift, schedule recordings from the program guide, start several recordings at the same time, or display two sources side by side with multi-view and the DVB-PIP function. The electronic guide handles up to 10,000 channels, and a CI+ slot accepts a module for encrypted packages.
Four HDMI 2.1 ports for consoles
Connectivity is clearly aimed at recent video gaming. The four inputs are all HDMI 2.1 and support Ultra HD, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM), and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) up to 144 Hz. HDCP 2.2, HDMI-CEC, ARC, and eARC are all included, with eARC used to send high-definition audio back to an amplifier or external bar.
For everything else, the television offers two USB-A ports and two USB-C ports, two F-type satellite inputs, one IEC antenna socket, and the already mentioned CI+ slot. Wireless covers Bluetooth, Miracast, and AirPlay, while the wired or Wi-Fi network supports remote wake-up (wake on LAN and wake on Wi-Fi). A TOSLINK optical output is also among the audio connections.
Ambient lighting and swivel stand
Loewe slips a hidden LED bar into the television: the magic.light function. It runs discreet light sequences at power-on and power-off, or provides warm white lighting during a film. The color, brightness, saturation, and duration of the animations can be adjusted, and the function can be disabled entirely if you consider it unnecessary.
Placed on its table stand, the television swivels by hand plus or minus 45 degrees, with concealed cable routing. Motorized rotation is available as an option, under the name magic.motion, and requires the dedicated floor stand. Two remote controls come with the screen, the Loewe remote stellar and a more compact remote mini.
In terms of power consumption, the European energy label classifies the television as F in SDR and G in HDR, values consistent with a large self-emissive OLED panel.

Available finishes
The three versions are based on an identical technical foundation; what distinguishes each version is not the technology, but the finish.
- Alu + Alu matt (standard): brushed aluminum frame with “diamond cut” finish and rear panel also in aluminum, in a light matte tone. The most minimalist, monochrome and discreet variant, playing on the continuity of metal on all four sides and the rear.
- Alu + Concrete (optional): same light brushed aluminum frame, but the back is made of real glass-fiber-reinforced concrete (and not a painted imitation). Each unit has a slightly unique mineral texture. A more industrial and architectural style, with a contrast between light metal and raw concrete.
- Alu black + Lava (optional): matte black aluminum frame paired with a textured “lava” back (structured black coating). The darkest and most contrasted version, designed for interiors with a strong identity or rooms where the television should blend into a dark wall.
Recommended optional accessories
- Stands: floor2ceiling stand, floor stand motor stellar, floor stand flex, floor stand universal, wall mount universal, wall mount slim 432, wall mount stellar
- Audio: multi.room amp
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Stellar 42 dr+ compatible with Dolby Vision?
No. The TV supports HDR10, HDR10+ Adaptive, and HLG formats, but not Dolby Vision. In practice, the vast majority of 4K HDR content offered by platforms and discs remains playable, with HDR10+ Adaptive adjusting the rendering to the room’s brightness. On the audio side, Dolby Atmos is supported, as are Dolby Digital and Digital Plus; DTS:HD is not supported.
Can a subwoofer be connected?
Yes. A dedicated 3.5 mm jack output is provided on the rear to connect an active subwoofer. It supplements the integrated soundbar when you want to reinforce the low frequencies in a large room or for home theater. The TV’s general audio output operates at a variable level: its volume is adjusted with the remote control; fixed-level mode is not available.
Is the motorized stand included with the television?
No. The Stellar 42 dr+ comes with a rotating table stand that swivels approximately 45 degrees by hand, with concealed cable routing. Motorized rotation is part of the magic.motion function, which requires the optional Loewe floor stand; this motor is controlled by remote control and powered via the TV’s USB-A 2.0 A port. Wall mounting remains possible as an alternative.
What wall mount and what weight should be planned for?
The wall mount follows the VESA 300 x 200 standard. Without its stand, the TV weighs about 12 kg, and 14.2 kg once the table stand is mounted, which remains light for a 42-inch OLED panel. A Kensington security lock is integrated. The stated width of 95.8 cm takes into account the small signature side flag of about 1 cm, which should be kept in mind for precise built-in installation in a piece of furniture.
What is the standby power consumption?
In simple standby, the television consumes 0.4 watt, and 0.7 watt in networked standby. The physical switch allows a complete shutdown to 0 watt. In use, the energy label states 47 kWh per 1000 hours of SDR and 54 kWh for HDR, with a measured peak around 170 watts at high volume. The EPREL reference 1977954 provides access to all the official data.
