IF Product Design Award
The iF Design Awards, created in 1953, represent one of the world's leading design competitions. Each year, it attracts over 1,800 participants from 30 different countries. The jury, composed of globally renowned designers, not only examines and selects the chosen products but also adheres to stringent requirements to maintain a high-quality label.
Overview
Placing a television in the middle of a room, with its back visible and nothing to hide: that is the German manufacturer’s bet for its 48-inch OLED. The enclosure combines brushed aluminum and cast concrete, the panel is factory-calibrated in Kronach, and a soundbar spans the entire width of the bottom of the screen. Behind its furniture-like appearance, the electronics use the in-house dr+ system and the recent os9.
An enclosure made of raw materials assembled in Kronach
The Stellar 48 dr+ turns its back on televisions that hide against a wall. Loewe treats it as a refined piece of furniture on all four sides and at the rear. The diamond-cut brushed aluminum frame runs all around the panel; the back, meanwhile, changes depending on the selected finish.
Three versions share the same technical base; only the finish distinguishes them. The standard variant, Alu + Alu matt, keeps a light and monochrome tone, with a rear panel also in aluminum. The Alu + Concrete version replaces this back with real fiberglass-reinforced concrete (not a painted imitation), so each unit has a slightly different mineral texture. The third, Alu black + Lava, pairs a matte black aluminum frame with a dark textured back, for rooms where the television must blend into a dark wall.
All cables pass through an integrated guide and disappear under a rear cover, preserving clean lines even when the set is freestanding in the center of a room. The television comes with a rotating solid aluminum table stand (up to 45° on each side). Three other supports are available as options: a motorized floor stand, a floor-to-ceiling post for a 360° suspended effect, and an ultra-flat wall mount.
A hidden LED bar lights up the rear, which Loewe calls magic.light. It triggers short animations at power-on and power-off, or emits a warm white light during a movie. Color, brightness, saturation, and duration can be adjusted from the remote control, and the function can be turned off completely if considered unnecessary.
An OLED panel adjusted unit by unit
Loewe does not just buy a panel: the brand assembles and calibrates its OLED modules in its Kronach factory, starting from an open cell supplied by LG Display. Each unit goes through factory calibration (D65 white and RGB primaries), aiming for accurate color reproduction right out of the box. The Stellar documentation mentions modules with Micro Lens Array and META technology; on the 48-inch version, the stated luminance (around 800 cd/m² on a 10% HDR window) corresponds to a classic WOLED open cell rather than an MLA panel, the latter still being reserved for larger sizes.
The television reads all common HDR formats: HLG, HDR10, HDR10+ (including HDR10+ Adaptive), and Dolby Vision with Dolby Vision IQ handling, which adjusts the image according to ambient light. The color gamut is expanded (WCG). On the processing side, there is UHD upscaling for lower-definition sources, automatic dimming, an AI PQ mode, adaptive contrast, and 24p support for cinema. Response time drops to 1 ms and the viewing angle reaches 120°, two classic strengths of OLED technology.
A soundbar housed in the chassis
Under the panel, behind a lacquered metal grille, Loewe houses a closed soundbar bringing together ten transducers: six active and four passive; the latter go lower in the bass without a separate subwoofer. The crossover is two-way, sound projection is front-firing (the sound goes toward the listener, not downward or backward), and amplification operates in Class D. Power is rated at 2 x 20 W RMS and 2 x 40 W musical power, for a total of 80 W musical power.
The bar decodes Dolby Atmos in addition to Dolby Audio, Digital, and Digital Plus tracks, and handles DTS HD; the DTS HD and DTS:X logos appear on the first page of the manufacturer’s datasheet. Several listening settings accompany it all: automatic volume, AI AQ mode, equalizer, and dynamic loudness. A dedicated subwoofer output (3.5 mm mini-jack) remains available to reinforce the bass with an external subwoofer.
Record to SSD while watching
The in-house dr+ system is based on a dual-channel chassis and a dual triple tuner (DVB-T2, DVB-C, DVB-S2, and DVB-HD). In practical terms, the television receives several streams at once: you can record one channel while watching another, or schedule a recording from the guide (EPG, up to 10,000 channels). Recording is done on an internal SSD, quieter than a mechanical drive; the datasheet does not specify its capacity for this screen size, but Loewe documents 1 TB for the Stellar range. Timeshift (pausing live TV) and multi-recording are included, while simultaneous multi-view is not offered on this model. Recording to a USB key or USB drive also remains possible as an option.
On the satellite and antenna reception side, the television handles DVB radio, DiSEqC, Unicable, and dual channel. Supported codecs cover MPEG, MPEG2, MPEG4 (H.264), HEVC (H.265), and H.266. HD+, Zattoo, HbbTV, and teletext services are present.
The os9 system, derived from VIDAA
The television runs on os9, the in-house system built on the VIDAA base. The app catalog covers the expected services: Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Disney+, Apple TV, Deezer, and MagentaTV, complemented by FAST channels via TV Channel+. Two mobile apps come with it, my Loewe app and the VIDAA Smart TV app, to control the television or push content from a smartphone. Voice control works through Alexa Skills and VIDAA Voice. The menu and help are translated into 34 languages, and updates arrive via USB or the Internet.
There is also a media player, a DLNA client, a browser, parental controls, a timer, and automatic shut-off. A hotel mode is provided for professional installations.
Connectivity, gaming, and smart home control
Four HDMI ports equip the television. The datasheet details two in HDMI 2.0b format and two in HDMI 2.1 format; the latter two handle ALLM and VRR up to 144 Hz for gaming on recent consoles. Loewe’s general communication on the range, however, mentions HDMI 2.1 on all four inputs, a discrepancy worth checking depending on the intended use. HDCP 2.2, HDMI-CEC, ARC, and eARC are included; the latter sends sound back to an amplifier or external soundbar.
The rest of the connectivity is comprehensive: one USB-A at 1.0 A and another at 2.0 A, two USB-C ports, one IEC antenna input, two F satellite inputs, one CI+ V1.4 slot, and one TOSLINK optical output. The audio output can be set to fixed or variable, with a mini-jack subwoofer output. Wirelessly, the television supports Bluetooth, Miracast, AirPlay, and Matter, in addition to Wi-Fi and Ethernet with network wake-up (wake on LAN and wake on Wi-Fi).
For integration into a controlled installation, Loewe provides IP control compatible with Control4, Crestron, and Basalte. The optional magic.motion function rotates the television up to 45° on each side on the motorized floor stand, silently, from the remote control.

- The most minimalist, monochrome and discreet variant, emphasizing the continuity of metal on all four sides and the rear
Alu + Concrete (optional)
- Same light brushed aluminum frame, but with a rear in real fiber glass-reinforced concrete (and not a painted imitation)
- Each unit has a slightly unique mineral texture
- A more industrial and architectural style, with a contrast between light metal and raw concrete
Alu black + Lava (optional)
- Matte black aluminum frame paired with a textured “lava” rear (structured black finish)
- The darkest and most contrasted version, designed for interiors with a strong identity or rooms where the television must blend into a dark wall
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Stellar 48 dr+ be mounted on the wall?
Yes. The TV supports a VESA 300 x 200 mount, and Loewe offers an ultra-flat wall mount as an option. The cable cover on the back keeps a clean appearance even when wall-mounted. At 13.6 kg without the stand and 4.7 cm thick, it remains light and unobtrusive against a partition wall. The Kensington lock allows it to be secured in a high-traffic area.
Do you need an external device to record programs?
No. The dr+ system integrates an SSD and a dual triple tuner, which allows recording terrestrial TV, cable, or satellite without a separate decoder or hard drive. The television receives two streams in parallel, hence the possibility of recording one channel while watching another. Recording to USB storage remains available as an option if you wish to move the files.
What distinguishes the concrete, lava, and aluminum finishes?
The electronics and the panel are identical on all three. Alu + Alu matt is the most understated, entirely in light metal and monochrome. Alu + Concrete adds a back made of real concrete reinforced with fiberglass, with a texture that is unique from one piece to another, in a more raw style. Alu black + Lava combines a matte black frame and a dark textured back, a style that blends into dark walls and highly contrasted interiors.
Is 48 inches suitable for gaming on PS5 or Xbox Series?
The OLED panel offers a 1 ms response time, and two of the four HDMI ports support 2.1 with VRR up to 144 Hz and ALLM, enough to pair with a recent console. One point to note: the spec sheet limits the 2.1 format to only two inputs. It is therefore better to connect the console to one of these two ports to take advantage of the variable refresh rate.
Does the television integrate with a smart home?
Yes. In addition to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and AirPlay, it supports Matter, the open standard for the connected home. For more advanced installations, IP control makes it compatible with Control4, Crestron, and Basalte systems. Network wake functions (wake on LAN and wake on Wi-Fi) make it easier to power it on remotely in a home automation scenario.
