Lumene Coliseum Silent Extra Bright UST 200C
Lumene Coliseum Silent Extra Bright UST: motorized screen for ultra-short-throw projectors
An ultra-short-throw projector sits on a low cabinet, just a few centimeters from the wall, and projects a large image without a cable running across the room. But living-room light washes out the image as soon as a lamp is switched on or the curtains are left open. This tensioned motorized screen addresses that problem with a gray screen material that directs the projector’s light toward the sofa while rejecting light from the ceiling. It comes in four diagonal sizes, from 92 to 129 inches.
A gray screen material that filters living-room light
The surface belongs to the ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) family of screen materials, specifically the CLR variant, for Ceiling Light Rejection. It works with the geometry of the room: the beam from an ultra-short-throw projector arrives from below at a very shallow angle, while ambient light comes mainly from the ceiling and walls. The screen material directs light arriving from below toward viewers and rejects more than 88% of ambient light, preserving contrast, black depth and detail in a room that cannot be made completely dark.
A gain of 0.5 indicates how much light is reflected compared with a reference white screen, which has a gain of 1: on-axis, the gray screen material reflects about half as much. That is the trade-off for deeper blacks and better rejection of stray light, and also why a bright projector benefits more from this surface than a less powerful model. The 140° viewing angle keeps the image uniform for people seated at the sides of a large sofa, with 99% color reproduction and a 4K-compatible screen material.
A tensioned screen material for a shallow-angle beam
With an ultra-short-throw projector, light strikes the screen almost horizontally, so a ripple of just a few millimeters is enough to bend a straight line or create a darker band in the image. The Coliseum Silent Extra Bright UST screen material is tensioned along its sides, keeping it flat every time it is lowered. It also has anti-curling, anti-dust and anti-yellowing treatments that help preserve its flatness and color over time.
Above the image, the screen material extends into a 40 cm black border called an extra-drop. This creates space between the image and the housing: when mounted high on a wall or on the ceiling, the housing allows the projection area to lower to a height the projector can reach from its cabinet. Black side borders frame the image and enhance perceived contrast, while the opaque white backing prevents light from a window behind the screen from passing through the material.
Four diagonal sizes from 92 to 129 inches
The range comes in four 16:9 sizes: 92 inches (203 × 115 cm usable image), 100 inches (221 × 125 cm), 120 inches (266 × 149 cm) and 129 inches (285 × 160 cm). The housing has a 14 × 14 cm cross-section and is just over 20 cm wider than the image: it measures 225 cm on the 92-inch model and 308 cm on the 129-inch model, making this the first dimension to check against the available wall space. Net weight ranges from 15.9 to 24 kg depending on size, and all versions share the same screen material, motorization and 40 cm extra-drop.
A white aluminum housing for wall or ceiling mounting
The white lacquered aluminum housing mounts to the wall or ceiling using L-shaped brackets that are slimmer and sturdier than those of previous generations. It attaches to them with a secure clip system. Supplied hooks allow it to be suspended beneath a high ceiling. The housing is sealed and connected to a dedicated ground: static electricity generated as the screen material rolls up dissipates instead of attracting dust or damaging the electronics.
A quiet motor that works with home automation
The motorization uses a quiet 20 W DC motor (under 50 dB) rated for more than 20,000 operating cycles. Its S-curve control starts and slows the screen gradually at the beginning and end of travel, smoothing its movement and reducing stress on the fabric. The upper and lower limits can be adjusted precisely electronically, so the image stops at exactly the desired height in the room.
The supplied remote control operates via infrared and 433 MHz radio frequency and allows fine adjustment of the position. For home automation installations, the screen accepts RS232, RS485, dry contacts and a 12 V trigger, with manual controls (up, stop, down) completing the setup.

Frequently asked questions
Can it be used with a conventional projector mounted on the ceiling or placed at the back of the room?
No. The CLR screen reflects light arriving from below at a shallow angle, as it does from an ultra-short-throw projector. Light from a long-throw projector, arriving from straight ahead or above, would be partly treated as stray light, resulting in a darker, less uniform image. For this type of projector, the Coliseum range is available with other screen materials, including Extra Bright LT, which rejects ambient light for long-throw projection.
How do I choose the right screen size?
With an ultra-short-throw projector, image size depends on the distance between the projector and the wall. The projector’s manual specifies where to place it for a 92-, 100-, 120-, or 129-inch image, and how far above the lens the image begins. These two measurements, along with the width of the screen housing and the height of the furniture, determine the right screen size and mounting height.
Does a gain of 0.5 require a very bright projector?
Low gain reduces the light reflected straight back, but it also reduces the amount of ambient light reflected toward viewers, and it is this balance that determines contrast in a lit living room. The brighter the room remains during viewing, the more the projector’s brightness headroom matters. In the evening, with the lights dimmed, the difference is much less noticeable.
Can it be recessed into a drop ceiling?
No, the housing remains visible and can be mounted on a wall, ceiling, or suspended. Lumene offers screens with recessed housings in its Showplace range for a concealed installation.
How can I make the screen lower automatically when the projector is turned on?
The 12 V trigger connects the screen to a device with a trigger output: the screen lowers when the device turns on and rises when it turns off. If the projector has no trigger output, the screen can be controlled through a home automation system via RS232, RS485 or dry contacts, or simply with the remote control.
What should I expect for delivery and installation?
The package measures 241 to 345 cm in length, depending on the size, with a cross-section of 22 × 21 cm and a gross weight of 19.9 to 29 kg. It must be stored flat, never upright, until installation. Given the length of the housing, installation requires two people.
