The built-in Wi-Fi function allows you to establish a wireless connection to your router or box, greatly simplifying the connection of the system to the network and the use of various audio streaming services. If no Wi-Fi router is available, the Wireless Direct function will not only allow you to stream your music directly from your smartphone or tablet via AirPlay or MusicPlay, but also to control your amplifier using the AV Controller app.
This amplifier offers a range of network functions that make it easy to use and provide access to additional sources. You can connect the amplifier to a computer to listen to Internet radio, Spotify, Pandora, and control your system via Web Browser Control. The AV Controller app (available on iTunes AppStore and Android Market) allows you to control various functions of the amplifier from an iPod, iPhone, iPad or Android Smartphone/Tablet.
This AV amplifier is equipped with several sound programs based on Yamaha’s DSP technology. Thanks to these, it is easy to create a sound field corresponding to real movie theaters or concert halls right in your home, and enjoy natural and effective surround sound. You can now use the AV Controller app to adjust the DSP parameters according to your preferences, to exactly match the movie or concert being watched. Two modes are offered, Basic or Advanced, allowing you to select different types of adjustments.
For installations with space constraints, Yamaha’s Virtual CINEMA FRONT technology allows you to enjoy a stunning virtual Surround field, using only speakers in front of the listening area. This exclusive Yamaha technology relies on the use of two Surround speakers and a center speaker placed in the front for a high-resolution 5-channel Surround field, with incredible virtual reproduction of the rear channels.
Yamaha’s exclusive bass enhancement technology delivers incredibly rich bass while maintaining excellent spatialization and sound balance, especially when used with small speakers. When used with a subwoofer, Extra Bass enhances the volume of the entire low frequency range of the system, not just the front speakers. You’ll enjoy exceptionally powerful and present sound.
The Zone B output allows you to send stereo sound to a second room. In this case, the main zone has five channels. It is thus possible to enjoy stereo sound in another room (same audio source for both zones: Zone A and Zone B).

Very good product with an excellent quality/price ratio. I recommend connecting it to a TV for setup, which is more intuitive than using the amp's screen. The smartphone & tablet app is very handy.
Pros: Good product.
Cons: Lots of settings to configure. The manual is on CD. It's necessary for setup.

For now and after 3 weeks of use, I am very satisfied with the Yamaha RX577, especially the adjustment options. The only downside is the screen display. With my Focal 815 speakers, it is perfect.
Pros: Good musicality, many settings, very serious equipment.
Cons: User manual and TV guide are poor on the display.
