This Home Cinema amplifier features Bluetooth functionality allowing you to easily listen to music from your smartphone, tablet or other compatible device. Yamaha Compressed Music Enhancer is now optimized for Bluetooth audio transmission, improving music playback for a lively and vivid sound even when listening wirelessly.
This Home Cinema amplifier model is fully compatible with the latest HDMI standard. With the transmission of 4K videos at 60 frames per second, enjoy extremely high-definition video quality without degradation. This amplifier also complies with the new HDCP2.2 anti-copy protection process used when transmitting 4K signals.
The built-in Wi-Fi function allows you to establish a wireless connection to your router or box, greatly simplifying the connection of the system to the network and the use of various audio streaming services. If no Wi-Fi router is available, the Wireless Direct function will not only allow you to stream your music directly from your smartphone or tablet via AirPlay or MusicPlay, but also to control your amplifier using the AV Controller app.
This amplifier offers a range of network functions that facilitate its use and allow access to additional sources. You can connect the amplifier to a computer to listen to Internet radio, Spotify®*, Pandora®*, and control your system via Web Browser Control. The AV Controller app (available on the iTunes AppStore and Android Market) allows you to control various functions of the amplifier from an iPod, iPhone, iPad or Android Smartphone/Tablet.
In just a few minutes, YPAO calibration automatically adjusts numerous parameters to provide optimal sound based on the listening room. This system uses Reflected Sound Control technology to correct the negative effects of sound refraction, in order to obtain a studio-quality audio environment without specific acoustic treatment of your room. It also allows you to adapt the different DSP modes, including CINEMA DSP, to the acoustic properties of the room.
Human hearing is subject to different sensitivities depending on frequencies, especially when listening at low volumes. The YPAO Volume function applies loudness equalization correction to automatically adjust the levels of high and low frequencies when changing volume. Following the YPAO calibration results, the equalization correction is optimized to match the new listening conditions.
For installations with space constraints, Yamaha’s Virtual CINEMA FRONT technology allows you to enjoy a stunning virtual surround field using only front speakers in the listening area. This exclusive Yamaha technology relies on using two surround speakers and a center speaker placed in the front for a high-resolution 5-channel* surround field, with incredible virtual reproduction of the rear channels.
Yamaha’s exclusive bass enhancement technology delivers incredibly rich bass while maintaining excellent spatialization and sound balance, especially when used with small speakers. When used with a subwoofer, Extra Bass enhances the volume of the entire low-frequency range of the system, not just the front speakers. You’ll enjoy exceptionally powerful and present sound.
The Intelligent Amp Assign function automatically assigns amplifier channels to certain speakers based on the selected functions. For example, on a 7.1 system, when Zone 2 is disabled, all channels are directed to the Main Zone. If Zone 2 is enabled, the signal from the two rear surround channels is directed to the two Zone 2 speakers, leaving the Main Zone in 5.1. Similarly, when CINEMA DSP 3D mode is enabled, the two front presence speakers are powered, but not the two rear surround speakers. When CINEMA DSP 3D is disabled, it’s the opposite. With Intelligent Amp Assign, there’s no need to change the cable connections on the back of the amplifier – just another way Yamaha makes your life easier.

The sound is impeccable, but the operation is a bit complicated given the many possible options between the decoder, DVD player, TV, etc. However, the advantage is having an amplifier that can be connected to speakers independent of an all-in-one home theater system.
Pros: Excellent quality.
Cons: Setup is a bit complicated.
