The Rotel A14 MKII amplifier features a class AB amplification section delivering 2 x 80 W at 8 ohms. This power allows it to handle even the most challenging speakers and intense dynamic peaks without faltering. The power supply, a crucial element, relies on a large toroidal transformer manufactured in-house by Rotel and four high-capacity slit-foil power capacitors. This generous sizing ensures an abundant energy reserve to handle any situation.
To process digital sources, the A14 MKII integrates a high-level Texas Instruments 32-bit/384 kHz digital-to-analog converter. Compatible with high-resolution formats, including MQA and MQA Studio, it ensures precise and detailed reproduction of digital audio files. Roon Tested certified, the amplifier integrates seamlessly into a Roon environment.
Versatility is one of the strengths of the Rotel A14 MKII. On the digital side, it features five inputs: USB-B, two optical, and two coaxial RCA. Analog sources are not left out with four RCA line inputs and an MM phono input for turntables. Outputs include a pair of speaker terminals, an RCA pre-out, and control outputs. Wireless connectivity with aptX and AAC Bluetooth is also included for easy pairing with smartphones and other portable devices.
With its clean lines and solid metal chassis, the Rotel A14 MKII boasts a timeless aesthetic typical of the brand. The front panel, available in silver or black, features a large volume knob, a readable display, and direct access buttons for inputs. The dimensions of 430 x 93 x 345 mm and the weight of 9 kg reflect the serious design and quality of the internal components.
When listening, the Rotel A14 MKII stands out for its great neutrality and transparency across the entire frequency range. The frequency response is both very wide and linear, with extremely low distortion. The amplifier reproduces the smallest details with precision and fluidity, without any harshness. The soundstage is wide and stable, with a beautiful sense of space and depth. The timbres are rich and natural, the voices expressive and nuanced. The dynamics are present with sharp attacks and very responsive power surges.
Despite its reasonable price positioning, the Rotel A14 MKII holds its own against more expensive amplifiers. It delivers very high-level musical performance, with remarkable versatility and refinement. It is undoubtedly one of the best value-for-money options on the market in its category. Whether you’re listening to your favorite vinyl records or streaming playlists, this amplifier will satisfy the most demanding audiophiles without breaking the bank.
What are the main improvements over the previous model?
The Rotel A14 MKII benefits from significant optimizations in the signal path circuitry. These enhancements deliver even more impressive audio performance at a constant price. Transparency, precision, and musicality are taken to a higher level.
Is this amplifier suitable for use in a small apartment?
Absolutely. With its 2 x 80 watts, the Rotel A14 MKII provides ample power to drive medium-sized speakers in a reasonably sized room. Its power is not excessive, and it will remain precise and nuanced even at low volumes.
Can I connect my phone to this amplifier?
Yes, the Rotel A14 MKII is equipped with an aptX and AAC Bluetooth chip. You can wirelessly pair your smartphone or tablet to stream your favorite music and playlists in high quality.
Is it possible to use the A14 MKII as a simple preamplifier?
Yes, the A14 MKII has a preamplifier mode that allows it to be used solely as a preamplifier and digital-to-analog converter. This offers the option to pair it with an external power amplifier if desired.
Is the A14 MKII compatible with multiroom streaming systems?
While the A14 MKII is not directly compatible with multiroom systems, its Roon Tested certification allows it to be easily integrated into a Roon ecosystem for advanced music management across multiple rooms.

Purchased based on the positive reviews of this model.
I was immediately taken by the warmth of the sound. I rediscovered my speakers. I had the opportunity to compare this amp with a Marantz that was recommended to me. Well, from my perspective there's no comparison with the Rotel. If you prefer a warmer and more precise sound, buy it with your eyes closed.

I was looking for an amplifier that allowed me to adjust the tone. I had first purchased the Cambridge AXR100D (good sound but annoying fan noise and poor radio reception in my city). Then I bought the CXA81, which had good sound but no tone adjustment, making it impossible to reduce the bass which I found too prominent at low volume. Finally, I opted for this amp which gives me complete satisfaction. Oddly enough, since then I've been listening to music mainly in bypass mode, simply because it sends less bass than the Cambridge and I still have my Monitor Audio Silver 300 speakers connected. The sound seems a bit more spacious to me. Under the pretext of being true to the studio recording, many amps have removed the ability to adjust the tone - isn't that a bit pretentious?
I highly recommend this amplifier which delivers a rather clear sound with non-strident highs, clean mids and rather round bass without overload, and whose intensity can be adjusted (I should point out that personally I'm not a fan of adding a subwoofer, good balanced speakers do the job very well).
