Franc Audio Accessories Wood block SLIM Platform - BASIC
Overview
The Wood Block Slim Basic platform represents the Polish approach of Franc Audio Accessories to vibration control. This isolation solution combines a multilayer construction of 52 distinct components with an adjustable ceramic foot system to stabilize audio and video equipment while damping unwanted mechanical influences.
A design focused on vibrational coherence
The Wood Block Slim Basic is made up of 52 carefully selected elements, manufactured from 9 materials with distinct damping and rigidity properties. The main shelf, CNC-machined from MDF, measures 480 × 440 mm with a thickness of 40 mm. The choice of MDF is no accident: unlike solid wood or plywood, this composite material guarantees structural consistency from one platform to another. Skulimowski favors this reproducibility to ensure consistent performance, regardless of the surface finish applied.
Each platform rests on four feet equipped with ceramic discs. Inside each foot are three extra-hard ceramic balls that create minimal points of contact with their housing. This particular geometry limits the surface area for vibration transmission while maintaining the overall stability. The feet also incorporate aluminum sleeves, brass pads, and plastic washers, each material playing a role in managing resonance frequencies.
The ceramic discs are individually height-adjustable with a maximum travel of 45 mm per foot. This adjustment range compensates for irregularities in the support surface and ensures a level base, even on furniture whose shelves may sag slightly. A soft damper integrated into each foot absorbs residual micro-vibrations.
The combined coupling–decoupling principle
Franc Audio Accessories’ philosophy is based on an approach that reconciles two methods often considered opposing. Decoupling aims to isolate a device from its support to prevent external vibrations from reaching sensitive circuits. Coupling, on the other hand, aims to evacuate vibrations generated by the device itself into an inert mass heavy enough to dissipate them without resonating.
The Wood Block Slim Basic combines these two principles. The ceramic balls provide effective decoupling from the rack or floor by creating point contacts and exploiting the hardness of the ceramic to limit the transmission of mechanical waves. At the same time, the platform itself forms a stable 5.3 kg mass that couples the device resting on it, absorbing its own internal vibrations thanks to the layering of materials.
This dual functionality explains why the platform is at home under analog sources such as turntables, where the cartridge picks up the slightest movement of the support, but also under tube amplifiers, whose transformers generate parasitic vibrations, or under CD players, whose transport mechanisms are sensitive to resonances. The 68 kg load capacity allows the installation of heavy equipment without compromising the effectiveness of the system.
Finishes to suit every interior
Franc Audio Accessories offers a wide range of finishes to integrate the platform into various environments. Natural wood veneers are available in eight standard species: black zebrano, ebony, grey oak, muscato burl, mocha oak, Indiana rosewood, Rio rosewood, Siberian oak, Sicilian walnut, sosna, teak, and wengé escuro. Each veneer can be given a gloss or matte varnish depending on the desired effect.
Beyond this standard palette, the brand offers the option of ordering custom finishes in several hundred additional wood species. Users who prefer a lacquered finish can choose any color from the RAL chart, allowing them to match the platform precisely to existing furniture or a specific interior design scheme. This flexibility also extends to dimensions: although the standard format suits most hi-fi and home theater equipment, custom sizes are available on request.
The hand-applied finish guarantees protection against scratches and a consistent surface appearance from panel to panel. Each platform leaves the workshop individually numbered and accompanied by a signed certificate attesting to its authenticity and compliance with manufacturing standards.
Easy installation with the supplied accessories
The mounting kit includes lifting levers to raise the equipment while positioning the feet, Allen keys to adjust the height of each ceramic disc, as well as the fastening screws, aluminum sleeves, and plastic washers. Adjustment takes only a few minutes: simply place the platform in the desired location, set the device on top, then adjust the height of each foot until you obtain a stable, level support.
The absence of visible screws and the discreet adjustment system preserve the clean, minimalist aesthetics of the whole. The feet remain accessible without disassembly, allowing later adjustments if the equipment is moved or if additional devices change the load on the supporting furniture.
Positioning within the Wood Block range
The Slim Basic version stands out from the Slim MAX version through a construction focused on essentials. Where the MAX incorporates additional technologies for specific applications, the Basic retains the core of the system – the 52 components, the 9 materials, the four adjustable ceramic feet – in a straightforward, accessible formula. For users seeking a thicker platform capable of supporting higher loads, Franc Audio Accessories also offers the Fat range, whose increased thickness and mass alter the damping characteristics.
This graded range allows the solution to be adapted to the usage context: the Slim Basic is suitable for light to medium sources, preamplifiers, and digital-to-analog converters, while the more robust versions are aimed at massive power amplifiers or exceptional turntables.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Basic and MAX versions?
The Basic version includes the fundamental elements of the Wood Block Slim concept: 52 components, 9 materials, four adjustable ceramic feet, and a CNC-machined MDF construction. The MAX version incorporates additional elements designed for specific applications, but the technical core remains identical. The choice depends on the installation requirements and the type of equipment to be isolated.
Why use MDF rather than solid wood or plywood?
Paweł Skulimowski chose MDF because of its structural reproducibility. Unlike solid wood, whose properties vary depending on grain direction, cutting orientation, and growing conditions, MDF offers perfect uniformity in all directions. This consistency ensures that each platform produced will provide the same vibrational performance, regardless of the veneer or lacquer used as a finish.
How does the coupling–decoupling system work?
Decoupling occurs between the platform and the support thanks to the ceramic balls, which create minimal contact points and exploit the exceptional hardness of the ceramic to block vibration transmission. Coupling occurs between the device and the platform: the 5.3 kg mass and the layered materials absorb the vibrations generated by the equipment itself. This dual operation frees the device from external disturbances while preventing it from resonating at its own parasitic frequencies.
Which types of equipment benefit the most from this platform?
Turntables are among the primary candidates, as the phono cartridge converts any mechanical vibration into unwanted electrical signal. Tube amplifiers, whose transformers and tubes themselves generate micro-vibrations, also gain in clarity. CD players and other digital sources with rotating mechanisms achieve more stable playback. Even digital-to-analog converters and preamplifiers, although they have no moving parts, benefit from isolation from airborne vibrations transmitted by the speakers and from the reduction of structural resonances in their chassis.
How do you adjust the height of the feet?
Each foot has a threaded ceramic disc that is adjusted using the supplied Allen keys. The adjustment travel reaches 45 mm per foot, allowing compensation for significant unevenness. Simply turn the disc clockwise to raise the foot, or counterclockwise to lower it. A bubble level or smartphone app makes it easier to obtain a perfectly horizontal base, a necessary condition for optimizing load distribution on the four support points.
Can several platforms be stacked?
Stacking is not part of the standard design and could compromise the balance of the coupling–decoupling system. To isolate several stacked devices, the recommended method is to place each device on its own Wood Block platform within a hi-fi rack with separate shelves. If space constraints require stacking, it is preferable to install a single platform under the entire stack, ensuring that the total load does not exceed 68 kg.
