The ArtSound UNI40 is a passive two-way speaker with a bass-reflex enclosure. It handles up to 100 W and can provide sound for spaces of around 40 m². Its clean-lined ABS enclosure comes with an adjustable ball-joint bracket allowing wall or ceiling mounting, in either vertical or horizontal position. The speaker is sold as a pair and is suitable for residential or professional environments such as shops, bars, or restaurants.

Construction and design: discreet looks in the service of sound

The UNI40 opts for a deliberately understated aesthetic. The Universals series is characterized by a minimalist front panel combined with gently rounded corners, enabling it to blend harmoniously into any interior. The enclosure is made entirely of ABS, a plastic material known for its robustness and light weight, helping keep the speaker’s weight down to just 1.9 kg.

The dimensions remain compact: 230 mm high, 146 mm wide, and 142 mm deep. This small footprint allows the speaker to be placed on a piece of furniture or a shelf, but it’s really in wall or ceiling installations that the UNI40 makes the most sense. The supplied bracket allows 180° rotation, ensuring a dispersion angle that’s always tailored to the listening position.

The speaker is available in several finishes: black, white, and metallic quartz (a brown/bronze shade). The lack of magnetic shielding is no longer much of an issue in the era of flat screens, but it’s worth noting if you’re still using a CRT television.

Drivers and acoustics: polypropylene and mica for durability

The UNI40 uses a classic yet effective two-way configuration. The 13 cm mid/bass driver features a cone made from a polypropylene and mica blend, a choice that ensures the acoustic properties are maintained over time. This composite material is highly resistant to humidity and temperature changes—qualities that are particularly welcome for a speaker that may be installed in a kitchen or near a patio.

The 1.25 cm (1/2-inch) tweeter is fitted with a PEI (polyetherimide) dome, a technical polymer offering good rigidity for precise high-frequency reproduction. The bass-reflex loading, with its port located at the rear of the enclosure, reinforces low-end presence and delivers a frequency response extending from 60 Hz to 20 kHz.

Together, these elements give the UNI40 great neutrality for faithful, natural sound. Its 90 dB sensitivity (some sources indicate 86 or 87 dB depending on measurement conditions) provides a comfortable sound level without putting excessive strain on the amplifier.

Installation and connection: maximum flexibility

The UNI40 comes with its ball-joint mounting system, making it easy to angle the speaker in either horizontal or vertical orientation. The U-shaped bracket attaches to the wall or ceiling using a standard screw mount. Once installed, the spherical joint offers 180° freedom of movement, allowing you to direct the sound toward the listening area even when the speaker is mounted high up.

The Universals series features a plug-in connection that makes wiring the speaker cable easier. In practice, this is a detachable screw terminal block: you connect your wires to the terminal outside the speaker, then plug it into the connector located at the rear. This design greatly simplifies installation, especially when the speaker is fixed in a hard-to-reach location.

With its 8-ohm impedance and power handling range from 20 to 100 watts, the UNI40 is compatible with the vast majority of hi-fi amplifiers and home cinema amps on the market.
