The ArtSound UNI40 is a passive two-way speaker with a bass-reflex enclosure. It handles up to 100 W and can provide sound for areas of around 40 m². Its clean-lined ABS cabinet comes with a ball-joint swivel bracket for wall or ceiling mounting, either vertically or horizontally. The speaker is sold in pairs and is suitable for residential or professional environments such as shops, bars, or restaurants.

Construction and design: discreet looks in the service of sound

The UNI40 adopts a deliberately understated aesthetic. The Universals series is characterized by a sleek front panel combined with gently rounded edges, allowing it to blend harmoniously into any type of interior. The cabinet is made entirely of ABS, a plastic material known for its robustness and light weight, which helps keep the speaker’s weight down to just 1.9 kg.

Its dimensions are modest: 230 mm high, 146 mm wide, and 142 mm deep. This compact format means the speaker can be placed on a piece of furniture or a shelf, but it truly comes into its own when wall- or ceiling-mounted. The supplied bracket allows 180° of rotation, ensuring a dispersion angle that’s always suited to the listening position.

The speaker is available in several finishes: black, white, and metallic quartz (a brown/bronze shade). The lack of magnetic shielding is no longer a real drawback in the era of flat screens, but it’s worth noting if you still use a CRT television.

Drivers and acoustics: polypropylene and mica for durability

The UNI40 uses a classic but effective 2-way configuration. The 13 cm mid/bass driver uses a cone combining polypropylene and mica, a choice that guarantees stable acoustic properties over time. This composite material is highly resistant to humidity and temperature changes—qualities that are particularly useful for a speaker that may be installed in a kitchen or near a patio.

The 1.25 cm (1/2 inch) tweeter is fitted with a PEI (polyetherimide) dome, a technical polymer offering good rigidity for accurate high-frequency reproduction. The bass-reflex loading, with its port located at the back of the cabinet, reinforces low-frequency presence and delivers a frequency response extending from 60 Hz to 20 kHz.

Together, these elements give the UNI40 great neutrality for faithful, natural sound. Its 90 dB sensitivity (some sources indicate 86 or 87 dB depending on measurement conditions) provides a comfortable sound level without putting too much strain on the amplifier.

Installation and connection: maximum flexibility

The UNI40 comes with its ball-joint mount, which allows easy orientation of the speaker, whether positioned horizontally or vertically. The U-shaped bracket is fixed to the wall or ceiling using a standard screw connection. Once installed, the spherical joint offers 180° freedom of movement, letting you direct the sound toward the listening area even when the speaker is mounted high up.

The Universals series features a plug-in connection that makes speaker cable hookup easier. In practice, this is a detachable screw terminal block: you connect your wires to the terminal outside the speaker, then plug it into the connector on the back. This design greatly simplifies installation, especially when the speaker is fixed in a hard-to-access location.

With an impedance of 8 ohms and a power handling range from 20 to 100 watts, the UNI40 is compatible with the vast majority of hi-fi amplifiers and home cinema amps on the market.

As the big sister of the UNI30, the UNI40 primarily serves to add depth to the soundstage. Its larger woofer and higher power handling provide more solid low-frequency foundation and the ability to fill larger rooms effortlessly.

For professional installations with long cable runs, ArtSound also offers 100-volt versions (UNI30T and UNI40T) compatible with public address systems in commercial or public venues.
