Overview
At the heart of the Prophecy range, launched in early 2025, the ProphecyC embodies PMC’s expertise in vocal reproduction. This center speaker inherits technologies developed for the professional world — PMC monitors have been equipping mastering studios, film post-production facilities, and broadcast auditoriums for over three decades. British manufacturing, a redesigned transmission line, and a tweeter derived from studio monitors all converge to deliver crystal-clear dialogue and seamless sonic consistency with the other speakers in the series.
A transmission line dedicated to voice
The ATL (Advanced Transmission Line) technology has been PMC’s acoustic signature since the brand was founded in 1991. Unlike conventional bass-reflex speakers, this design places the drivers at the end of a folded, damped line, which in this case is 1.79 meters long. Unwanted mid and high frequencies emitted from the rear of the cones are absorbed by the acoustic foam, while the bass frequencies exit in phase with the forward radiation. This approach eliminates spurious resonances and maintains stable low-frequency response at any listening level.
The ProphecyC takes this concept further through an original layout: the two 125 mm mid-bass drivers are positioned at different points along the line instead of being mounted side by side on the baffle. This choice significantly reduces coloration in the vocal range — where most dialogue resides — and improves integration with the tweeter. The result is clearer voice articulation, without the nasality or muddiness sometimes found in compact center speakers.
LaminairX: controlling airflow
Introduced around ten years ago under the name Laminair, PMC’s aerodynamic port technology now reaches its most advanced version. LaminairX applies fluid dynamics principles borrowed from motor racing to transform turbulent airflow into laminar flow at the transmission line’s exit. In practical terms, resistance and harmonic distortion drop by up to 3 dB, eliminating chuffing and port noise during dynamic passages.
The ProphecyC’s LaminairX port is front-firing, offering valuable flexibility in positioning. The speaker can be placed close to a wall or piece of furniture without the bass becoming overbearing or losing definition. This practical aspect matters greatly in home cinema, where the center speaker often ends up in a constrained space under the screen or inside a cabinet.
Drivers and crossover
The two 125 mm mid-bass drivers use a mineral cone mounted on a cast-alloy chassis. This combination provides rigidity and light weight, two essential qualities for reproducing fast transients without lag. The long-throw voice coil, dubbed LTXL, allows for significant excursion while keeping the cone within its linear operating range, even at high output levels.
The 27 mm soft-dome tweeter comes directly from PMC’s professional nearfield and mid-field monitors. Ferrofluid cooling allows it to handle high power without dynamic compression. A dedicated dispersion grille widens its radiation pattern to 180 degrees, ensuring even coverage for listeners seated off-axis. This is particularly valuable in a living room where several people may be watching a movie from different positions.
The crossover point is set at 1.6 kHz, an unusually low value for a two-way speaker. This choice avoids the “beaming” (excessive directivity) that affects cones above 2 kHz and gives the tweeter a broader operating range, where it remains comfortable. The steep crossover slope, a hallmark of PMC filters, ensures that each driver operates in its optimal band.
Integration into a multichannel system
The ProphecyC is designed to match the other models in the range: prophecy1, prophecy5, prophecy7, and prophecy9. The tonal consistency between these speakers makes it easy to build a 5.1, 7.1, or larger system. Sound transitions from one channel to another remain smooth and free of tonal shifts, enhancing the sense of immersion when watching films or listening to multichannel music.
For Dolby Atmos or DTS:X setups, the ProphecyC can be complemented by height and effects speakers from PMC’s catalogue, such as the in-wall Ci series, which is used as a global reference for Dolby Atmos Music mixing. This close connection with the professional world ensures that what leaves the post-production studios is faithfully reproduced at home.
Practical considerations
The speaker weighs over 16 kg, so a solid support is required, whether it’s a wall-mounted shelf, a sturdy piece of furniture, or a dedicated stand. Its depth of 260 mm (295 mm including binding posts and grille) should be taken into account if you plan to place it in an enclosed space. The transmission line vents at the front, which reduces constraints related to proximity to the rear wall, but leaving some space around the speaker is still advisable to ensure proper heat dissipation during long, loud listening sessions.
The 4-ohm impedance can be demanding for some entry-level home cinema amplifiers when they drive several speakers with the same impedance simultaneously. Checking that the amplifier is compatible with a 4-ohm load on all channels remains a sensible precaution.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the ProphecyC be used on its own, without the rest of the Prophecy range?
Yes, it will work with any main and surround speakers. However, you’ll get the best tonal consistency by pairing it with other Prophecy models. If you already own speakers from another brand, a comparative listening session remains the best way to assess the overall sonic coherence.
What type of speaker cable is recommended?
The terminals accept 4 mm banana plugs and bare wire. A cable with a cross-section of 2.5 mm² to 4 mm² is suitable for runs up to five meters. For longer distances, increasing the cross-section helps limit losses. The quality of the copper and connectors matters more than the marketing claims surrounding cables.
Is a subwoofer necessary?
The ProphecyC extends down to 50 Hz (–3 dB), which covers most of the dialogue and effects range. For a fully convincing home cinema experience, adding a subwoofer is still recommended to reproduce the infrasonics found in modern soundtracks. Setting the amplifier’s high-pass filter around 60–80 Hz will relieve the center speaker and optimize overall dynamics.
