PMC Prophecy: five models designed to evolve from stereo to 5.1

February 04, 2026

Contents

Since 1991, PMC has been designing transmission line loudspeakers. This specific, relatively uncommon technique among manufacturers has built the British brand’s reputation in professional studios, from Metropolis in London to Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. The Prophecy range, available since February 2025, applies this expertise to five passive models designed for home hi-fi and home cinema.

A shared architecture across all models

The principle of the acoustic transmission line (ATL at PMC) is to channel the rear wave of the bass driver through a folded, damped line. Mid and high frequencies are absorbed by dedicated foams, while the low frequencies exit in phase with the front radiation. This type of loading delivers deeper, lower-distortion bass than a conventional bass-reflex, while maintaining frequency response even at low listening levels.

The innovation in the Prophecy range lies in the LaminairX vent, a machined aluminum element forming the base of each speaker. The internal fins, inspired by the aerodynamics of Formula 1 single-seaters, guide the airflow to reduce turbulence. PMC claims a 3 dB reduction in harmonic distortion compared to the previous generation. The base is decoupled from the cabinet by a layer of cork.

The five models in detail

Prophecy1 – The bookshelf model in the range is 40 cm high and 16.5 cm wide. Its 12.5 cm mineral-loaded polypropylene woofer feeds a 1.79-meter transmission line. The 27 mm soft dome tweeter, derived from studio monitors, uses a profiled grille that creates a secondary loading chamber and broadens dispersion up to 180 degrees. Crossover frequency: 1.6 kHz.

Prophecy5 – A 92 cm two-way floorstander, the Prophecy5 uses the same drivers as the Prophecy1 in a larger cabinet. The LaminairX base allows it to operate close to a rear wall without excessive bass. Its narrow footprint (16.5 cm) makes it discreet despite its sonic presence.

Prophecy7 – The first three-way model in the range adds a 55 mm soft dome midrange borrowed from the Ci series, the benchmark for Dolby Atmos Music mixing. This driver is surrounded by an “n-compass” waveguide that combines exponential and hyperbolic profiles to align its dispersion with the tweeter. The transmission line reaches 1.91 meters. Sensitivity: 88 dB/W/m, nominal impedance: 6 ohms.

Prophecy9 – The flagship model uses two long-throw 12.5 cm woofers, paired with the same midrange/tweeter combination as the Prophecy7. Extension reaches down to 35 Hz. The 103 cm-high cabinet is only 16.5 cm wide, giving it a reduced visual footprint for a speaker in this category.

ProphecyC – The center speaker adopts an original configuration. Its two 12.5 cm woofers are positioned at different points along the transmission line, a layout that reduces coloration in the vocal range. The front-firing vent allows placement against the wall under the screen. Dimensions: 57.5 cm wide, 16.5 cm high.

Crossover and construction

All Prophecy models share a steep-slope crossover that keeps each driver working in its optimal range. The PCB features thick copper traces and gold-plated vias. The low crossover frequency, 1.6 kHz on the two-way models, benefits from the additional gain provided by the tweeter grille.

The cabinets are available in natural walnut, blackened walnut, and Mediterranean oak. The finishes avoid piano gloss in favor of a matte treatment that preserves the feel of the wood. Woven grilles attach via hidden magnets.

Setup

With sensitivity ratings between 87 and 91.5 dB depending on the model and impedances from 4 to 6 ohms, the Prophecy range is compatible with most mid- to high-end integrated amplifiers. PMC recommends a minimum distance of 10 cm from the rear wall for models with a front vent. The suggested toe-in places the speaker axes slightly converging toward the listener.

The consistent voicing across the five models makes mixed setups straightforward. A pair of Prophecy9 in stereo can evolve into a 5.1 system without any timbre mismatch between channels.
