Projeo Cross HD 90

Overview

Projecting a sharp image does not always require a painted wall or a permanently installed screen. When the room changes from one meeting to the next, or when a movie night comes together outdoors on a summer evening, a screen that can be carried and set up without tools solves the problem. The Projeo Cross HD 90 meets this need with a 90-inch screen stretched over an aluminum tripod.

Tool-free setup in a few seconds

Behind the screen, an X-shaped frame keeps the surface taut and flat. This principle keeps the image straight and wrinkle-free once the screen is open. The central pole, made of black lacquered aluminum alloy, stands on a 64 cm wide tripod that stabilizes the whole unit on a flat floor.

Everything works by hand. You spread the tripod, raise the screen, then lock the height at the desired level. The manual adjustment covers a 140 cm range, enough to align the bottom of the image with a meeting table as well as with a sofa. The lack of a motor means the height must be adjusted with each setup, with no memory function, but it eliminates any need for electrical power and makes the whole unit lighter.

Once folded, the Cross HD 90 fits into a box measuring 140 by 20 by 13.6 cm. This elongated shape slides into a car trunk or along a wall. Projeo recommends horizontal storage, so as not to strain the frame or mark the screen, which means planning space for a box one meter forty long.

Matte white screen and 170° viewing angle

The projection surface is matte white with a gain of 1. In concrete terms, the screen reflects as much light as a neutral reference, without concentrating it toward one point. Colors and contrast remain faithful to what the projector displays, and no hotspot effect appears in the center of the image.

The viewing angle reaches 170°. This angle describes the width of the cone within which the image retains its brightness and tones. With such a wide angle, a viewer seated far off to the side sees the same image as someone positioned directly in front of the screen, an advantage in a long meeting room or a living room where not all seats are aligned.

The downside of a gain of 1 is ambient light. The screen does not compensate for strong lighting: to preserve contrast, a room where curtains or light intensity can be controlled is preferable. In a very bright room in broad daylight, the image will lose some of its density.

Which projector for the Cross HD 90

Projeo indicates compatibility with long-throw projectors. This type of device is placed at a good distance from the screen, the exact value depending on the model’s throw ratio. For a 90-inch image, or about two meters wide, you should allow for a distance of around two to three meters, or even more depending on the lens.

Ultra-short-throw projectors, placed just below the image, are not suitable for this screen format. They require a surface that is perfectly flat and stable on the floor, and work better with a screen treated against light. Before choosing the Cross HD 90, it is therefore worth checking the type of projector you have and the depth of the room.

16:9 format and choice within the Cross HD range

The Cross HD 90 features a 90-inch diagonal, or 228.6 cm, for a usable image area of 199.2 by 112.1 cm in 16:9 format. This ratio matches almost all current video content and computer output, which avoids black bars on most sources.

Black borders frame the white surface. This dark trim is not only aesthetic: it enhances the perception of contrast around the edges of the image and hides slight beam overspill.

The range includes a second model, the Cross HD 80, whose screen measures 176.8 by 99.8 cm for an 80-inch diagonal. From one model to the other, only the image size and the box length change; the tripod and matte white screen remain identical. The choice depends on the available space and throw distance: the 90-inch model requires a slightly larger room and a projector capable of properly illuminating a wider surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the name “Cross HD” limit the displayable resolution?

The HD mention refers to the range, not to a technical limitation of the screen. A projection surface does not process any signal: it simply reflects the light from the projector. The Cross HD 90 therefore displays a Full HD source just as well as a 4K source. Final sharpness depends on the projector, its focus, and the projection distance, not on the screen itself.

Can the Cross HD 90 be used outdoors?

Yes, provided it is installed on firm, level ground. The gain of 1 delivers its best rendering once night has fallen, when ambient light drops. Wind requires caution: a screen stretched on a tripod presents a significant surface area, and a gust can throw the whole unit off balance. It is better to avoid windy evenings or weigh down the base if the situation requires it.

Is the tripod stable on all types of flooring?

The 64 cm wide base remains stable on a hard, even floor, such as parquet or tile. Thick carpet or soft ground reduces this stability, because the feet sink in unevenly. On this type of surface, it is better to check that the screen is level before starting the projection, even if that means discreetly shimming one foot.

How does it handle content that is not in 16:9?

The screen is in 16:9 format. Content in 4:3, which is more square, is displayed with two black bars on the sides and a smaller image. A 21:9 film, which is wider, appears with bars at the top and bottom. In both cases, the projection remains usable, but part of the white surface is not used. Framing is adjusted at the projector level.

Can the height be adjusted to any level?

Yes. The manual system allows locking at the desired position over the entire 140 cm range, with no preset steps. This makes it possible to fine-tune the bottom of the image according to seat height and projector position. The adjustment must be redone with each setup, since no position is stored from one use to the next.
