AirPlay 2

AirPlay 2 is the second generation of Apple’s wireless protocol for audio streaming over Wi-Fi. The main addition compared with the original AirPlay: multi-room. The same track can be played simultaneously on several connected speakers, soundbars, network hi-fi amplifiers, or compatible televisions, perfectly synchronized, or different tracks can be played room by room.

Control is handled through the Home app, Siri, or the iOS Control Center, with management of device groups and individual volumes. The audio stream goes up to 24 bits / 48 kHz and network robustness has been reworked compared with the first version: expanded buffering, recovery after brief Wi-Fi dropouts, and better-controlled latency during long listening sessions.
