Denon Home: Wireless Connected Speakers, Multiroom

April 02, 2020

Let’s take a look at the new multiroom speakers from Japanese manufacturer DENON which replace the old HEOS range, now called HOME. Denon Home speakers stream all your music wirelessly with Hi-Fi quality sound, in any room of the house, so you can stream music from the most popular streaming services.

Three versions available

The Denon Home 150, Home 250 and Home 350 with prices ranging from €249 to €699 for the largest. The different sizes will allow you to provide sound for spaces ranging from 10 m² to 30 m² for the Home 350. With this new series, Denon has revised its copy: this new range now incorporates a water and stain resistant fabric, for positioning in damp places like a bathroom or kitchen, and to blend into your interior. Two colors are available: black or white.

Quick and easy setup

First, you need to download the HEOS app, available on iOS or Android, to be able to associate the different speakers or electronics (DENON or MARANTZ) to your home network. You can then configure everything easily and intuitively, with the installation guided step by step. Once the various speakers are installed and configured on your app, you can select each speaker in each room of your house and stream the music you want with the most well-known online music services such as: Spotify Connect, Amazon Music HD, TIDAL, TuneIn, Deezer, Pandora, SoundCloud or via a Wi-Fi, AirPlay 2 or Bluetooth connection. It also supports most file types such as MP3, WAV, AAC and WMA as well as high resolution files such as FLAC and ALAC (192 kHz/24 bits) and DSD 2.8 MHz and 5.6 MHz.

Voice control

This new range is not to be outdone on the latest voice assistant systems with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Apple Siri. Ask to play music, turn up the volume, skip to the next track… To make it easier to use, the new proximity detection interface is activated as soon as your hand approaches, so the control buttons light up so you can use them.

Several possible configurations

It is also possible to configure a stereo setup by pairing two Denon Home speakers for a better sound image. You can also add a Denon DSW‑1H subwoofer to make it a 2.1 system, or upgrade to a Denon DHR‑S716H soundbar and use two Home 150s as surrounds to reproduce a 5.1 home theater system without any speaker cables.

It is possible to use Roon, a multiroom player, to manage your music library. It analyzes your music to find photos, biographies and establish links between artists, composers and performers. Roon offers a user-friendly interface to enjoy your music in the best conditions.

Our opinion:

After testing the different products in store, we particularly appreciated the sound of the various models. The “small” 150 will easily fill the space of a kitchen, the 250, more imposing, is richer, wider in sound stage and of astonishing balance, while for the 350 we were blown away by the depth of the bass, but it requires a large space to fully express itself.
