Cyrus TTP vinyl turntable
Overview
The Cyrus TTP is the British brand’s first turntable. It combines a 26 kg machined aluminum chassis with Cyrus-developed power and motor control electronics. The mechanical section was produced in partnership with a German engineering company.
A one-piece chassis milled from solid
The TTP’s construction is based on a philosophy of absolute stability. The plinth and platter are machined from solid aluminum blocks, with the plinth carved from a single piece of billet aluminum. This mass-focused approach creates a platform that is particularly inert to external vibrations. The aluminum platter sits on a hardened steel spindle rotating on a high-precision bearing with integrated lubrication. The platter’s finish is so refined that it becomes difficult to perceive its rotation without placing the supplied synthetic leather mat on top.
The synchronous direct current motor is integrated directly into the plinth, eliminating any stray vibration that could come from an external motor. This integration is paired with a custom-designed digital control circuit that maintains remarkable speed stability. The belt drive features a notable detail: Cyrus has opted for a square belt rather than a round one. This geometry prevents the belt from riding up or down on the platter and ensures stable positioning over time, without the need for frequent readjustments.
The three height-adjustable feet allow for precise leveling of the unit. Their design also provides effective isolation from vibrations, making the turntable less sensitive to the surface it rests on. This distinguishes it from certain competitors that require a dedicated rack to perform optimally.
The TA3 tonearm: a pragmatic approach
Cyrus chose to equip the TTP with the TA3 arm, which aficionados will recognize as being based on the Rega RB330. This decision may surprise on a turntable of this caliber, but it reflects a pragmatic approach that prioritizes overall performance over originality at any cost. The arm uses a one-piece construction combining headshell and arm tube, offering high rigidity. Intelligent mass redistribution minimizes resonance points, while the near-frictionless horizontal and vertical bearings ensure precise groove tracking.
Available adjustments include tracking force, anti-skating, and cartridge alignment (zenith). The absence of height adjustment (VTA) is a limitation for some users, although Cyrus offers optional shims in various thicknesses to optimize the vertical tracking angle according to the chosen cartridge. Additional counterweights are also available to accommodate heavier cartridges.
The turntable is supplied without a cartridge, leaving it to the user or dealer to select the most suitable model. The arm readily accepts both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges, offering great flexibility in transducer choice.
Electronic control and user interface
Speed selection is handled electronically via two front-panel buttons: one for 33 1/3 rpm, the other for 45 rpm. A third button is used to stop. This electronic control ensures greater speed accuracy than purely mechanical systems. Wow and flutter remain below 0.1%, a particularly low figure that attests to the quality of the drive.
Fine-tuning screws accessible at the rear allow precise adjustment of each speed using a small screwdriver. This feature proves useful for particularly demanding listeners or to compensate for potential drift due to component aging.
The standard power supply is provided by an external block compatible with voltages from 90 to 264V (50/60Hz), allowing international use without modification. Power consumption remains modest: less than 0.5W in standby and a maximum of 20W in operation.
The PSX-R2 option: a substantial upgrade
The presence of a dedicated port for the external PSX-R2 power supply is a typical Cyrus signature. This regulated 300W power unit, sold separately, is far more than a sophisticated transformer. It delivers perfectly stable DC power free from the interference present on household mains. Connected via a high-quality XLR cable, it communicates intelligently with the turntable to automatically adapt its output parameters.
The contribution of the PSX-R2 translates into a noticeable improvement in performance. Users report a deeper and wider soundstage, with better instrument separation and increased dynamics. The already remarkable noise floor of the turntable then reaches exceptional levels, revealing the subtlest micro-details in recordings.
Accessories and finish
The base package includes a synthetic leather mat, a cartridge alignment protractor, and RCA interconnect cables. Cyrus offers an optional transparent acrylic dust cover specifically designed for the TTP. This cover features rear cutouts for cable pass-through, side handles for handling, and the engraved Cyrus logo. It represents an additional investment but is a wise choice to protect the turntable from dust and household mishaps.
Cyrus’s signature “phantom black” finish gives the TTP understated elegance. The brushed aluminum texture on the top of the plinth creates subtle play of light, while the side cooling fins echo the visual identity of other products in the range. The white logo beneath the tonearm provides a refined final touch.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Cyrus TTP turntable supplied with a phono cartridge?
No, the TTP is sold without a cartridge so that each user can choose a model that suits their preferences and budget. The TA3 arm accepts most MM and MC cartridges on the market, offering great freedom of choice.
Is the dust cover included with the turntable?
An acrylic dust cover is now supplied with the turntable. For older units, it was available as an option from Cyrus dealers, specially designed with cutouts for cable pass-through and the engraved logo.
Can you adjust the tonearm height?
The TA3 arm does not include built-in height (VTA) adjustment. However, Cyrus offers optional shims that allow you to optimize the vertical angle according to the cartridge height used. While less convenient than continuous adjustment, this solution remains effective.
Is the PSX-R2 power supply essential?
The turntable operates perfectly with its standard power supply. The PSX-R2 is an optional upgrade that enhances performance, particularly in terms of soundstage, dynamics, and noise floor. It can be considered at a later stage.
What is the origin of the turntable’s mechanical section?
Cyrus collaborated with a specialized German engineering company to develop the mechanical aspects (bearing, motor, platter) while retaining control over the electronics and power supply. This approach combines German mechanical expertise with Cyrus’s British electronic know-how.
Does the turntable require a dedicated stand?
Thanks to its isolating, height-adjustable feet and substantial mass, the TTP tolerates placement on a regular shelf better than some competitors. A dedicated rack remains preferable to fully exploit its potential, but it is not strictly essential as it is with lighter or suspended turntables.
