Overview
The Power Sub 10 S2 sits in the middle of the range, between the compact Power Sub 8 S2 and the imposing Power Sub 12 S2. Its contained size (32 × 43.5 × 45.5 cm) allows it to fit into medium-sized rooms without taking over the space, while delivering a response that extends down to 22 Hz.
A front-firing driver coupled with a passive radiator
The acoustic configuration is based on a bass-reflex principle assisted by a passive radiator. The 257 mm woofer, mounted on the front, uses a black aluminium-titanium cone (ATB technology, for Aluminum Titanium Black). This material, shared with the speakers in the GLE S2 series, combines rigidity and lightness: the cone resists deformation during large excursions without weighing down the moving assembly, which promotes transient responsiveness.
The wavy surround (“wave surround”) features multiple folds to extend the driver’s excursion. Compared to a traditional surround, it allows for a longer stroke and limits the mechanical stresses that generate distortion. This technique is found on Canton’s high-end models, including the Reference series.
Under the subwoofer, a passive radiator of the same diameter takes over in the lower end of the spectrum. Oriented towards the floor (“downfire” configuration), it extends the frequency response into the infrabass region and ensures a natural transition, without the chuffing noise that a conventional bass-reflex port can produce. The sound radiates in all directions from the floor, making the subwoofer less easily localisable by ear.
Amplification and system protection
The built-in amplifier delivers 200 W continuous and can reach 330 W peak. This power reserve makes it possible to handle the dynamic peaks of movie soundtracks or orchestral passages without perceptible compression.
Canton equips this model with its SC (Soft Clipping) technology. This circuit intervenes when the amplifier approaches its limits: instead of letting the signal clip abruptly, it gradually smooths the signal peaks. The result is less audible than hard clipping, and both the electronics and the driver are protected against overloads. Distortion remains controlled even when the volume is turned up.
Room integration settings
The rear panel houses the adjustment controls. A volume knob allows you to set the level of the subwoofer relative to the main speakers. The phase control, variable from 0° to 180°, corrects timing differences between the subwoofer and the other speakers depending on their respective placement. The crossover frequency, adjustable from 50 to 200 Hz, defines the point from which the subwoofer takes over the bass: a low value (50–80 Hz) is suitable for generous floorstanding speakers, while a higher value (120–200 Hz) relieves compact speakers or satellites.
The acoustic compensation selector offers three positions. This setting adapts the subwoofer’s response according to its location: near a wall, in a corner, or in the middle of the room. Corners and walls naturally reinforce certain frequencies; the compensation attenuates these excesses to avoid bloated bass. Canton does not detail the exact correction curves applied, but the principle remains pragmatic: you test the three positions and keep the one that sounds the most balanced in your environment.
Connectivity and everyday use
The Power Sub 10 S2 accepts signals via stereo RCA inputs (high impedance) or a mono input dedicated to the LFE channel of an AV receiver. For systems without a pre-out, screw terminals allow high-level connection directly from the speaker outputs of an amplifier.
Automatic power on and off simplify everyday use. The subwoofer detects the presence of an audio signal and switches on; after a few minutes of silence, it goes into standby with a residual consumption of 0.32 W. No need for manual intervention, and the electricity bill won’t suffer.
The four feet are height-adjustable. On an uneven wooden floor or thick carpet, this practical detail helps stabilise the subwoofer and avoid unwanted vibrations.
A versatile subwoofer, with a few limits to note
The Power Sub 10 S2 is designed for versatility: stereo music listening, supporting a multichannel system, or reinforcing the bass of compact speakers. Its size and power make it suitable for rooms of roughly 15 to 30 m². In a very large living room or a dedicated home cinema room, the higher model Power Sub 12 S2 (308 mm driver, 380 W amplification) will be more at ease.
The weight of 15 kg remains reasonable for a subwoofer in this category, but it still requires two hands to move during installation. The matt finish (black or white) blends easily into a contemporary interior; those who prefer high-gloss lacquer or wood veneer will need to look at other Canton ranges.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Power Sub 10 S2 be used with speakers from other brands?
Yes. The volume, phase, and crossover frequency settings allow it to be matched with most speakers on the market. You simply need to adjust these parameters according to the characteristics of the main speakers, as you would with any active subwoofer.
What is the difference between the LFE input and the stereo input?
The LFE (Low Frequency Effects) input receives a signal already filtered by the AV receiver, dedicated exclusively to bass. The stereo input accepts a full-range signal; the subwoofer’s built-in low-pass filter then ensures that only low frequencies are reproduced. In a home cinema setup with an AV amplifier, the LFE input is generally preferable.
Do I need to use a specific subwoofer cable?
A decent-quality coaxial RCA cable is sufficient. Length is not very critical for low frequencies, but a shielded cable avoids interference if the run goes alongside mains cables or transformers.
How do I choose the right position for the acoustic compensation selector?
The easiest way is to try the three positions using a musical passage rich in bass. If the bass seems too prominent or blurry, switch to a higher compensation setting. Your ears remain the best judge, as every room reacts differently.
Can the subwoofer be placed on its side or on a shelf?
Canton recommends placing it on the floor, feet down, so that the downfire passive radiator operates correctly. Installing it higher up or on its side would change the acoustic coupling with the floor and could degrade the bass response.
What room size can the Power Sub 10 S2 cover?
It is suitable for medium-sized rooms, roughly between 15 and 30 m². Beyond that, or in a very open space, the Power Sub 12 S2 model will offer more power reserves and deeper bass extension.
