DAB+
DAB+ is the evolution of Digital Audio Broadcasting terrestrial digital radio, standardized by ETSI under reference TS 102 563. It replaces the MPEG-1 Layer II codec of the original DAB with HE-AAC v2, which combines AAC coding, Spectral Band Replication, and Parametric Stereo for much greater efficiency at low bitrates. A single frequency block carries several multiplexed stations, whereas FM requires one frequency per station, with superior audio quality and reduced bandwidth.
Reception requires a compatible DAB+ tuner. This feature is found on dedicated hi-fi tuners, home theater amplifiers with built-in tuner, or tabletop radios, which receive the multiplexes broadcast in addition to or instead of FM.
