The Norstone Cable Classic B150 Black is a speaker cable equipped with OFC copper conductors boasting a purity of 99.997%. Designed for bookshelf speakers and surround speakers, it features a cross-section of 2 × 1.5 mm² and a 7×18 strand twisted construction, ensuring flexibility during installation. An integrated polarity marking makes wiring easier. This model is part of the range developed by Norstone for over twenty years and can be used for both Hi-Fi and home theater applications.
The core of the Classic B150 is based on an OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) conductor with an impressive purity of 99.997%. This advanced deoxygenation process removes virtually all impurities that could affect signal transmission, reducing interactions between crystalline grains that can cause microscopic distortions. The conductor structure uses a 7×18 strand geometry, meaning each conductor consists of 7 bundles, each containing 18 ultra-fine strands. This multiplication of conduction paths enhances the skin effect at high frequencies while maintaining excellent overall conductivity.
The linear resistance of just 0.013 ohms per meter places the B150 among the top-performing cables in its category. This exceptionally low value minimizes line losses and preserves signal integrity, which is especially important for maintaining the damping factor between amplifier and speakers. The capacitance of 55.530 pF/m, although relatively high, is perfectly controlled over recommended lengths and does not noticeably affect the frequency response of typical setups.
The insulation withstands a continuous 300V, more than sufficient for all domestic amplifiers, even the most powerful ones. The maximum allowable current of 27A far exceeds the needs of bookshelf and surround speakers for which the cable is optimized. This considerable safety margin ensures reliable operation even during significant transient peaks.
Norstone has developed a particularly ingenious polarity identification system that sets the B150 apart from the competition. The two conductors are encased in differently shaped sheaths: one perfectly round, the other slightly rectangular. This tactile differentiation allows for immediate polarity identification, even in the dark or when installing in confined spaces. This mechanical solution is more durable than traditional color markings, which can fade over time.
The flexible black PVC outer sheath offers perfect discretion along baseboards or in technical ducts. Its flexibility greatly facilitates routing through conduits and allows for tight bending radii without risk of damage. The matte finish prevents unsightly reflections and blends naturally into any listening environment.
The Classic B150 delivers a distinctive sonic signature that appeals to audiophiles seeking precision and dynamism. Its lively character results in excellent transient reproduction and a remarkable ability to follow rapid signal variations. The midrange, unanimously described as articulate, provides exceptional clarity for vocals and acoustic instruments, enhancing intelligibility and presence.
The bass register offers appreciable firmness, effectively structuring the musical message without overload or muddiness. This feature is particularly beneficial for bookshelf speakers, whose naturally limited bass extension gains in definition and impact. The overall balance favors transparency and dynamics over warmth or roundness, positioning the B150 as a revealing rather than coloring cable.
Surround speakers fully benefit from this approach, as the cable accurately reproduces directional effects and the atmospheres of multichannel soundtracks. Compatibility with high-resolution formats and DSD signals passing through high-performance amplifiers is fully ensured.
Norstone recommends using the B150 for speakers not exceeding 100W of power and for maximum lengths of 10 meters. This limitation is not due to the cable’s current capacity, which is more than sufficient, but to the optimization of the resistance/capacitance balance to preserve frequency integrity. Beyond 10 meters, the cumulative capacitance could slightly attenuate the extreme high frequencies on certain speakers particularly sensitive to this parameter.
The 2 × 1.5 mm² cross-section perfectly meets the requirements of compact speakers and surround setups. For high-power floorstanding speakers or active subwoofers, Norstone offers larger cross-sections in its Classic range (B250, B400) better suited to these demanding applications.
Stripping is easy thanks to the flexible PVC sheath and the orderly strand structure. A standard stripping tool allows for clean ends without risk of damaging the conductors. The fine strands naturally twist together to form tips compatible with all types of terminals.
Norstone recommends a maximum length of 10 meters to optimize the balance between resistance and capacitance. Beyond this, the cumulative capacitance of 55.530 pF/m could slightly attenuate the extreme high frequencies on certain sensitive speakers. For longer distances, opt for the 2.5 mm² or 4 mm² sections from the Classic range, which offer a better resistance/capacitance compromise over long runs.
Norstone’s patented system uses differently shaped sheaths: one perfectly round, the other slightly rectangular. This tactile differentiation allows for immediate polarity identification, even in the dark. This mechanical system is more durable than traditional color markings and helps avoid common wiring errors that can damage equipment.
The B150 is specifically optimized for bookshelf and surround speakers up to 100W. Although its 27A current capacity technically allows it to power more powerful speakers, its 1.5 mm² cross-section is not ideal for high-power floorstanding speakers, which would benefit more from the B250 (2.5 mm²) or B400 (4 mm²) models offering even lower linear resistance.
These three models share exactly the same electrical and acoustic characteristics. Only the sheath color differs: black for the B150, white for the W150, transparent for the CL150. The choice is purely aesthetic, based on integration into the listening environment, with no impact on sound performance.
OFC copper with 99.997% purity eliminates virtually all oxygenated impurities that create microscopic resistive interfaces in standard copper. These impurities generate audible non-linear distortions, especially on complex signals and fast transients. The improvement in transparency and dynamics justifies the investment, especially on mid- to high-quality systems capable of revealing these subtleties.
The Classic B150 has negligible impedance that does not alter the load seen by the amplifier. Its very low resistance (0.013 Ω/m) preserves the damping factor even with amplifiers that have low output impedance. It is perfectly suitable for tube amplifiers, transistor, class D, or hybrid amplifiers, with no restrictions on power or output impedance.
