Each year, dozens of European journalists gather to select the best electronic products of the year. Awarded by a diverse and impartial jury, the EISA (Expert Imaging and Sound Association) awards recognize exceptional products for their performance, design, or ergonomics.
The Hisense PL2 is the brand’s latest ultra short throw laser projector. As the successor to the highly acclaimed PL1, it brings a host of improvements to deliver an even more stunning visual experience. Thanks to its DLP technology and laser light source, the PL2 projects sharp 4K Ultra HD images with a brightness of 2700 ANSI lumens.
The HDR compatibility is particularly extensive as this projector supports Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG formats. You can thus enjoy high dynamic range content with vibrant colors and striking contrasts. Texas Instruments’ XPR image processing emulates 4K resolution from a 1080p DLP chip for highly detailed images.
One of the main advantages of the Hisense PL2 is its ultra short throw lens. With a projection ratio of just 0.22:1, it can display an image from 80 to 150 inches while being placed very close to the wall or screen. This greatly facilitates its integration into a living room, even a modestly sized one.
The focus is adjustable to adapt the image sharpness to the projection distance. You can thus achieve a perfectly defined image across its entire surface. The PL2 simply sits on a piece of furniture and blends discreetly into your interior once turned off.
To complement the visual experience, the Hisense PL2 directly incorporates a 2x15W soundbar. Compatible with Dolby Atmos and Dolby Audio, it delivers a highly immersive spatial sound that enhances the image. Several listening modes are offered (standard, cinema, music, voice, night) to adapt the sound output to the type of content.
This all-in-one solution eliminates the need to connect an external audio system and simplifies installation. The soundbar perfectly integrates into the projector’s design for a compact and elegant ensemble.
The PL2 runs on the in-house Vidaa U operating system version 7.0. This intuitive interface provides access to numerous streaming applications like Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, etc. You can easily enjoy your favorite content without needing an external device.
The HDMI 2.1 connectivity allows you to connect 4K HDR sources up to 120 Hz, ideal for next-generation gaming consoles. The projector is also equipped with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to wirelessly stream content from a smartphone or tablet. DLNA and AirPlay 2 compatibility are also included.
Amazon Alexa and Vidaa Voice voice assistants are integrated to control the projector by voice. You can launch an app, search for content, or adjust the volume without using the remote control.
With its dedicated gaming mode and low latency, the Hisense PL2 is perfectly suited for gaming sessions on a large screen. Gamers will appreciate the responsiveness and fluidity of the images.
Laser technology offers a lifespan of 25,000 hours, which equates to over 10 years of use at 6 hours per day. This ensures a sustainable investment without the need to regularly change the lamp as with a traditional projector. The laser also allows for almost instant power-up.
Finally, the PL2 reduces eye strain thanks to its blue light reduction technology. It also consumes half the energy of an equivalent-sized LCD TV. Therefore, it’s a more eye-friendly and environmentally friendly choice.
What are the main differences between the PL2 and its predecessor, the PL1?
The PL2 brings several notable improvements over the PL1: increased brightness (2700 lumens versus 2100), an even shorter throw ratio (0.22:1 versus 0.25:1), active 3D compatibility, a new DLP chip supporting 4K signals up to 120 Hz, and a more recent Vidaa U operating system. The overall design remains similar with the integration of a 2.1 soundbar.
Does the PL2 require a dedicated projection screen, or can it project onto a white wall?
While it is possible to project the image onto a white wall, using a dedicated ALR (Ambient Light Rejecting) screen is highly recommended to get the most out of the PL2. This type of screen is specially designed for ultra-short throw projectors. It rejects ambient light for deeper blacks and more vibrant colors while reducing glare. The micro-prismatic structure of the screen optimizes light distribution for a uniform image without hot spots.
What are the connectivity options of the PL2?
The Hisense PL2 is equipped with three HDMI 2.1 inputs, one of which has ARC/eARC functionality, two USB ports, a digital optical audio output, and an Ethernet port. Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also integrated for wireless connection to various devices (smartphone, tablet, speaker, headphones, etc.). Finally, a power port is located at the back of the device.

Really very easy to use.
Quick settings and then the ability to fine-tune.
Lots of connection options between the HDMI and USB ports, and then AirPlay / Bluetooth / and even Chromecast if you have it (can be redundant for Netflix etc., but convenient for household users via their phones).
The sound is far superior to my old TV.
You’ll need to get a Home system if you want to go further, which makes sense.
One downside: it doesn’t have a shutdown protection feature.
Like the Xgimi Aura 2, for example.
Excellent product. Very happy.

Delivery was fast. The offer price at HomeCineSolutions was excellent. The Hisense PL2 looks high-quality. You don’t have to place it too far from the wall, which is ideal for me. Unfortunately, this type of projector requires a special screen that refracts light differently than regular projectors. As a result, the quality on my existing screen is worse. I had to order a new screen elsewhere. That’s why I’m deducting one star. Otherwise, my first impressions of the device were good.
