The Denon AVC-X2850H marks a turning point in the Japanese brand’s entry-level range. This 7.2-channel home theater amplifier packs technologies usually reserved for higher-end models: 150 watts per channel into 6 ohms, native 8K video compatibility, and integrated HEOS multiroom, all under 900 euros.
The AVC-X2850H sheds its simple receiver status to become a true power amplifier. Under its brushed black chassis (434 × 330 × 167 mm), the unit conceals seven discrete high-current transistor amplification stages delivering 95 watts per channel into 8 ohms with 0.08% distortion, or up to 185 watts peak into 6 ohms.
The front panel follows Denon’s design cues with two rotary selectors flanking a monochrome matrix display. Four Quick Select buttons store favorite configurations. The internal layout reveals a methodical design where transformer, heat sinks, and audio circuits benefit from an optimized arrangement that minimizes interference. The build reflects precise assembly despite the use of materials appropriate for this price range.
Six HDMI inputs, three of which are 8K 60 Hz certified, let you connect a next-gen console, UHD Blu-ray player, and other demanding sources simultaneously. The two HDMI outputs, including one eARC-compatible, make multi-screen setups easy. The built-in upscaling processor intelligently converts HD and 4K content to higher resolution, particularly appreciated on large screens.
Comprehensive HDR support (HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HLG, Dynamic HDR) ensures optimal reproduction. For gamers, the tech toolkit is complete: VRR to eliminate screen tearing, ALLM for automatic low latency, QFT to reduce lag, and 4K/120 Hz support for maximum smoothness on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
Dolby Atmos and DTS:X find an enthusiastic performer in the AVC-X2850H. The 7.2 configuration allows a 5.2.2 system with height speakers or a traditional expanded 7.2. DTS Neural:X and Dolby Surround processors create convincing spatialization even without dedicated ceiling speakers.
Audio connectivity remains generous: five analog RCA inputs, an MM phono input for turntables, two digital optical inputs, and two independent subwoofer outputs. Multizone management can power two areas with different content, turning the amplifier into a flexible home audio hub.
The Audyssey MultEQ XT system analyzes the room’s acoustics at eight positions to create tailor-made correction filters. It automatically detects speakers, checks their polarity, measures distances and levels, and determines optimal crossover frequencies. Algorithms compensate for reflections and resonances for a linear response and precise stereo imaging.
Dynamic EQ preserves tonal balance at low volume—ideal for nighttime listening. Dynamic Volume manages variations between content. Three target curves are offered: Reference (cinema standard), Flat (linear response), L/R Bypass (partial correction).
The HEOS platform turns the AVC-X2850H into a home audio hub. High-resolution streaming synchronized via Wi‑Fi, pairing with other HEOS products, unified control from the free mobile app. Direct access to major streaming services: Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music HD. Support for high-resolution files up to 192 kHz/24-bit and native DSD.
AirPlay 2 opens up the Apple ecosystem with multiroom sync and Siri control. Spotify Connect makes the amplifier a native endpoint. Amazon Alexa integration enables full voice control via compatible Echo devices.
Unique to the X2850H, Channel Level Monitoring displays each speaker’s output levels in real time on the TV. This visualization lets you observe signal distribution across channels—particularly insightful with Dolby Atmos where sound objects move through three-dimensional space.
The Denon setup assistant guides installation with clear graphics and detailed on-screen instructions. Automatic HDMI detection, simplified network configuration, intelligent input assignment. The RC-1253 remote control, despite its basic plastic construction, offers thoughtful ergonomics. The Denon AVR Remote app turns your smartphone into an advanced remote.
This device performs extremely well across all types of programs. First of all, it is reliable and efficient. [...] The upmixers still work just as well to create virtual immersion that surrounds listeners without distracting them from the action at the front. [...] After calibration, the surround and ceiling channels were a little too prominent. A manual rebalancing corrected this, resulting in sound elements positioned in the right places without drawing attention to themselves. [...] Purely stereo listening with only two speakers is pleasant, but not on the level of a simple stereo integrated amplifier in terms of soundstage and presence. [...] It's a pity there isn't a dedicated button on the remote control to display it instantly.
With 150 watts per channel into 6 ohms and a high-current architecture, the amplifier has ample power reserves for most home speakers. The seven discrete amplification stages ensure stable power delivery even with complex loads. That said, for speakers particularly demanding in current or with very low impedance (4 ohms nominal), higher-end models like the X3800H or X4800H will offer more dynamic headroom.
The AVC-X2850H stands out from the X1800H with higher power (150W vs 80W), the Audyssey MultEQ XT system versus the basic MultEQ, and especially the exclusive real-time level monitoring feature. Compared to the X2800H, which shares the same platform, the X2850H mainly adds this level visualization function and some internal optimizations, for a generally minimal price difference.
HEOS remains proprietary to the Masimo group and works natively with equipped Denon and Marantz products. However, thanks to AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, and analog inputs, the amplifier can fit into mixed ecosystems. Home automation platforms like Control4, Crestron, or RTI offer HEOS integration modules for incorporation into custom installations.
While strongly recommended to optimize performance, Audyssey MultEQ XT remains optional. The amplifier offers a Pure Direct mode that bypasses all digital processing for purists who prefer an unaltered signal. Manual settings are still available for those who want to fine-tune their system according to their listening preferences.

Denon AVC-X2850H amplifier, perfect in every respect.
Cabasse speakers connected in 5.1.
The sound is crystal clear, knowing that I watch movies with a high-quality Bose headset.
As for music, the power is sufficient for a house with a ceiling almost 6 meters high. The sound atmosphere is very good.
I recommend this home theater system at an affordable price.
