The Gold Note PST-10 is an external power supply specifically developed to optimize the Italian manufacturer’s turntables. Inspired by the PSU-10, the power supply designed for the PH-10 phono preamp, this unit uses a hybrid, super‑inductive, dual‑choke design that employs four transformers and a proprietary filtering technology. Compatible with several models in the range, from the Valore 425 to the prestigious Bellagio series, the PST-10 improves the stability of the current supplied to the motor in order to obtain more nuanced and detailed sound reproduction.

A close relationship with the PSU-10 phono preamp

The PST-10 inherits the chassis and Dual-Choke design of the PSU-10, the external power supply developed for the PH-10 phono preamp. This technical relationship is no coincidence: Gold Note has transferred a proven solution from the field of phono signal processing to the power supply of turntable motors. The result retains the same fundamental principles – inductive filtering, dual choke, isolation from the mains – while adapting them to the specific requirements of a drive motor.

The metal enclosure has compact dimensions of 200 × 80 × 160 mm and a weight of 3 kg. This half-width design makes it easier to integrate into an existing system, whether on a shelf or close to the turntable itself. Three finishes are available: black anodized, silver anodized, and gold anodized, each featuring traditional brushed aluminum.

Dual-Choke technology: dual‑inductor filtering

At the heart of the PST-10 is a proprietary design called Dual-Choke. This method uses an inductive filter on the analog stage, powered by a dual inductor that simultaneously drives the positive and negative high-current stages. In practice, the system employs two chokes wired in series to filter the voltage upstream of the output circuits.

The power supply uses four transformers, three of which are dedicated to the current delivered to the turntable, while the fourth is paired with the choke‑inductive filter. This distribution allows the functions to be physically separated: the main transformers provide the power required by the motor, while the fourth transformer powers only the two filtering chokes. The device also features a four-stage architecture with an equal number of ultra‑low‑noise voltage regulators, each stage benefiting from its own regulation to avoid any contamination between the power rails.

The filtering system is designed to eliminate interference and electrical noise coming from the mains. By achieving complete isolation from the AC power grid, it creates an ideal working environment for the turntable electronics to operate at their best. The turntable is thus decoupled from the household power network, so its fluctuations and interference can no longer affect the platter’s rotation.

Electrical performance and silver cable

The PST-10 provides power with a consumption of 25 W and a dynamic output of more than 50 W, allowing it to cope with the motor’s peak demands during start‑up or speed adjustment phases. Output voltage stability is a critical parameter for constant rotation: maximum variation does not exceed 0.05%.

The full‑power response time remains under 2.5 microseconds, a speed that allows the regulator to instantly correct any fluctuation. As for noise rejection, the PST-10 achieves a value greater than 80 dB for both line noise and common‑mode noise. These figures mean that interference present on the mains is attenuated by a factor of more than 10,000.

The power supply comes with a custom 1.5 m power cord made of silver‑core conductors. This specific cable provides the connection between the PST-10 and the turntable. Silver, the metal with the highest electrical conductivity of all elements, was chosen to minimize resistive losses along this path.

Compatibility with the Gold Note turntable range

The PST-10 is supplied as standard with the Bellagio Conquest and Bellagio Reference turntables, the top‑of‑the‑line models in the catalog. The Bellagio Conquest, available in a limited series, has a massive 100 kg structure standing 125 cm high, equipped with a 270 mm platter spindle. The Bellagio Reference is derived directly from the Conquest model with five curved plinths and a more compact format. These exceptional turntables benefit right out of the box from an external power supply worthy of their technical ambitions.

The PST-10 is also an upgrade for the Mediterraneo, Giglio, Pianosa, Valore 425 Plus and Valore 425 Lite models. The Valore 425 series is Gold Note’s entry‑level line, with a 30 mm‑thick MDF plinth, a thick platter, belt drive and a 9‑inch tonearm. For these turntables, which are initially equipped with a simpler built‑in power supply, the PST-10 represents a significant upgrade that transforms the motor’s performance.

The “The Italian Turntable” series includes the Pianosa, Giglio and Mediterraneo models. The Giglio, the second model in this series, shares some of the Pianosa’s features, such as the dual plinth with a lower half‑wave section and the B-5.1 tonearm, but with an improved motor for better speed stability. The Mediterraneo is the most ambitious model in this series, inheriting elements from the lower models while benefiting from numerous enhancements.
