Bluetooth
Bluetooth is a short-range wireless transmission standard used to pair headphones, earphones, a portable speaker, or an audio receiver with a source such as a smartphone, computer, or dedicated player. In 5.x versions, the practical range is around ten meters indoors, with lower power consumption and a more stable connection than in previous generations.
Wireless audio quality depends on the codec negotiated between the transmitter and the receiver: SBC and AAC are the most widespread, aptX and aptX HD improve sound quality, and LDAC reaches a higher bitrate to target high resolution. The LE Audio evolution introduces the LC3 codec, more efficient at an equivalent bitrate, and enables broadcasting to several receivers simultaneously via Auracast. A modern Bluetooth headset takes advantage of these advances for smooth wireless listening.
